our dusbin men have just been to empty our recycling bin...... they refused to take it because it has glass in it (wine bottles) 
apparently, glass has to go in the landfill bin but everything else thats recycleable is ok |

different systems for different areas .... i'm sure you could take the bottles to the glass recycling bins at the supermarket when you go there to shop though  |

That's how it works here. Cardboard / plastic / paper / tins in the domestic recycling bin and glass / textiles to the big recycling hoppers at supermarkets or at the tip. |

Sounds very backward to me mind you dust man very special breed over educated litter pickets not allowed to think for them selves or as ester ranson used to say jobs worth soon have there hand out at Xmas give them empty bottle see where they shove it xx  |

They are only doing their job....if they take everyones glass when they shouldnt they might well lose that job |

My council's quite good when it comes to recycling - we got new wheely bins for glass/plastic and paper /cardboard etc.
They do have a problem with bubble wrap though, it's continually left behind - i'd have though it would be kept for the many road workers to play with as all they seem to do is sit in the vans and wait for the holes to dig themselves...  |

We used to have a blue box for our glass,now it goes in with all the recycling. We have 3 bins,green for garden waste,grey for rubbish and brown for all recycling. So much easier |

Well we only moved into the area10 days ago from an area where you did put glass into the recycle bin so assumed that as glass can be recycled it would be the same system.
But rest assured, we will now use the bottle bank.
I posted the thread in amazement that glass dont go in the recycle bin at home. Its a new one on us and not a dig on the bin men |

we have 5 different recycling bits here in bristol...green..garden waste.
brown..food waste
black ..paper and glass
&another black for cardboard/plastic/cans...all weekly.
normal rubbish big bin is fortnightly..j 
ps..condoms are recycled in a very different way!! |

We have 1. black bin for household Waste.
2. blue bin for glass, plastic,
cardboard (now) was brown bin, and paper.
3. brown bin for garden waste Which last year our local council decided to charge everyone £40 a year For the priviledge of useing one for 7 Months of the year £60 for two brown Bins.. We got a bigger blue bin for more Recycleable materials left the smaller blue bin will use for a water Butt on wheels, thank goodness we Don,t have to take our glass down the Bottle banks.
