we were discussing last night the unique warm sound of vinyl, there is nothing like it. I posted Dylan Thomas' poem Do not go gentle, and we listened to versions on the internet read by Richard Burton, Dylan Thomas himself and Anthony Hopkins. Richard Burton's version compressed on the internet came no where close to the all emcompassing atmospheric rumble experienced when listening to my vinyl version. Yes, its easier to carry around, and yes, it doesnt get scratched, but at what cost. |

One tip for the most valuable of your collection, if not all, is to keep them in the inner sleeves with the antistatic liners. Over time, 30-40 years or so, the paper/card sleeves react slightly with the vinyl.
I played some the other day and the antistatic ones were like mint. |

I used to have tons of records.. picture discs, interview discs, allsorts. now i only have my Depeche Mode ones.
The thing I miss most, is the whole event of buying a record.
Going into town on a saturday with my pocket money, going to the record shop, the smells and sounds.. rifling through the records, finding the one I wanted (and a few I didn't lol) ... guarding them carefully on the (what seemed like) long journey home, taking care not to crush or knock them, until finally I would get to my room, lay the needle on it and enjoy.
Don't get me wrong, its good now you can pick a song or album, and have it on your device a few seconds or minutes later. But I do miss the old way |

"Fuckinel Ive loads of them still. From really early Floyd and tangerine dream to early house and hip hop way to many to list"
Tangerine Dream! Saw them live in concert years and years ago. Everyone always remembers Le Parc...
Still have some vinyl, quite rare picture discs, along with a lot of first pressing Dylan, Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen and quite a few others. |
