Everytime I go, my company puts me in a pensione type hotel with the thinnest walls. Stay at a larger hotel unless you want to be kept up at all hours.
If budget isn't an issue, the Grand Hotel de la Minerve or the St Regis are very good. If you get HHonors, then the Rome Cavalieri. |

Depends on your budget but there is No real central bit of Rome as its all so spread out and your best going close to the metro
Hotel re di Roma is a excellent budget hotel, rooms are nice and staff are excellent and its right on the metro and you get to see the real Rome too |

I agree on being aware of the metro lines and stops and not having to shack up with the pope in the absolute centre, omif there is such a thing. Huge range of costs and styles. It's refreshing to move around a little. |

A lot of people do Rome in a weekend! We did 3 nights and it was more than long enough to do everything we wanted to do and to be honest Rome is one of my least favoret places I've been to so I think much longer in the place and I may of been really put off. (Quite run down apart from the tourist bits and large groups of beggars and pick pockets near all big attractions)
Our itinary was:
Day we arrived we did the colosseum.
Day 2 the Vatican
Day 3 Trevi fountain and Spanish steps and a spot of shopping
But I've got to say the year after we went to bath and I much prefered that as a city break to Rome but all the same im glad I've done Rome too |

If you're on a budget take a look at monastery stays. I stayed in central rome, easy walking distance from everything for 30 euro a night! It was basic but better than an ibis! En suite with breakfast included. |

"Rome's not actually that big, if you stay fairly central you can walk most places. Enjoy your trip."
Not going to book the hotel just yet but will look at somewhere central, thank you, I'm sure we will really enjoy our trip. |

Although more expensive I'd look for hotels fairly central to the main things you want to see. Hotels further out mean either long-ish walks through not great areas or expensive taxis. I really enjoyed taking in the history of the city but it is expensive, and would def stay closer if I went again.
I would recommend visiting the pantheon and the church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva close by-both are incredible. The church is less famous than some other places but truly beautiful and houses a michaelangelo statue also.castel Saint angelo is worth a visit also.
Food wise,I ate at several restaurants near there also that were pricey but decent.
Enjoy!

We stayed at the Sol Pantheon, it's in a stunning location right outside the Pantheon (funnily enough). A great place for people watching etc. It's not a particularly fancy hotel, being in the centre of Rome it's in an old building, but it's very clean with great staff. We plan on going back to it. |

Check out Hotel Locarno, great location, fantastic bar and reasonable value. Was also featured on Steve Coogan's The Trip (useless information you probably didn't need!). |

Thank you for this! Will go and google in a moment |

When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
Love thay saying. My dad thought me that when I visited him in a Roman prison....he was in for killing 40000 Christians. Think he'd gotten the wrong end of the stick. |

I visit Rome 3-4 times a year and have never had a bad experience with accommodation. The underground is cheap and good so it doesn't really matter where you stay.
It's a wonderful city, hope you have a great time. |

italian swinger couples and lover couples, normally go to motel boomerang(motelboomerang)
. If you like to hear people have sex , and maybe to meet them , try this motel. It's outside Rome, 69euro night for room, you'll need car rent or taxy. |

"Ah thanks for that, no only booked flights at the moment, will take a peek at that hotel, how much was it? "
£199 for three nights. If you want something more upmarket my workmate stayed at the Aldrovandi Residence City Suites and said they were awesome. |

Whoops, that's for a single room, so unless one of you sleeps in the Coliseum you'll have to pay more |

Just looked, it looks a great hotel but it's £400+ for the dates we want to go, that's a bit more than we want to pay |

That's a shame. Have a look at Travel Republic - I got an email from them saying they're having a sale at the mo. You might get a decent deal. |
