No what I mean?

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

I really hate myself for this. Yes, I know, I am a member of the much hated grammar police and I just know that I will be slated for this. Over the last few days, I have noticed a distinct ignorance about the difference between "no" and "know." It is not difficult, is it? It is like chalk on a blackboard for me. It makes me shudder, so please please please do get it right.

Thank you. I may sleep better now. Or know. Or no.

I KNOW what you mean but I think it will happen as many people reply via phone.

While we are at it. People are starting to reply thinking they are Australian cricketers by beginning their sentance with 'Look'.

Strayens do it, we don't, lets stop it now before it becomes widespread.

To be honest even though I normally notice it doesn't really bother me.

However over on Instagram I follow two ladies that have a spelling quirk that irritates me a little. One uses his instead of he's and the other writes the word luckily as luckierly. Although I've managed to see the funny side by telling my friend who's an English teacher about it and it's driving her crazy. I'm surprised she hasn't started writing on her phone screen in red pen!

My grammar and spelling isn't perfect though so I wouldn't correct others or get too wound up about it. Xx

I have to ignore an in law who writes rearly instead of really and tied instead of tired. I don't sweat the no,know and nows any more,I have bigger fish to fry

I do know that I should not get worked up about a minor spelling transgression but ... I just cannot help it. I think I will consider entering therapy.

I am by no means perfect, but ... Agh!

I no what you mean, it's so distracting when people display know knowledge of where to use different instances of the same sounding words.

It does tend to put me off of a profile, post or message. Predictive text could be blamed, but either people are illiterate or just lazy.

The one that really irks me is when people write are instead of our. It really puzzles me as I'm guessing they speak like that as well.

Again , they are just speaking incorrectly if they write like that.

Do any of you know a spelling therapist who might help me? No? Know? Aggghhhh.

So how many people posting on this thread are double and triple checking their spelling and grammar first before they press that "post message" button? Ha

Not me. Although usually in these threads the people who protest about it the most are the first to fuck up.

I agree entirely. I am trying to understand why I get so wound up. It is my failing rather than anything else. Why on earth does it affect me so badly? Can anyone tell me? Does anyone no? Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

The last thing I would want is autocorrect learning some of the phrases I routinely use.

My car needs some repairs. I would be texting my mechanic for a new fanny belt, some tape for the arse hole in my exhaust as it has blowjob.

It is sad, although I do not message anyone asking that they correct their spelling. I have put out a general plea for therapeutic help but noone has offered so far. Spank me.

You mut write out 100 times:

I must tolerate the intolerable and accept that the illiterate also swing.

Whilst being tied over a table and spanked with every full stop.

"There is an X FACTER page on bookface

All of the above, and more, irritate us. It doesn't preclude us meeting someone, unless it's so hard to understand that we just give up, but it does colour our judgement.

Everyone makes typos and it's only an informal forum, but persistent bad grammar and misuse of language does put us off.
