Superb motorcycles in their day.....Years ago, I was lucky enough to be given a 'go' on one by a very nervous owner..!!

The ride was merely a round the block kind of thing....I treasure that memory...

The one T.E. Lawrence was tragically killed on, I belive there is still the two shillings or so he kept for petrol still there under the petrol tank cap.

Thanks for this thread, something dear to me are the machines of George Brough. XXX

Brighton - even Hove!

I had a convo with the curator dude at 'Clouds' or whatever it was called (Clouds Hill?) in Dorset not far from Bovington Tank Museum where T Lawrence lived on and off and he said his Brough Superior was worth about £1m.

Yes, a very interesting chap indeed, especially in his most remarkable exploits against the (then) Ottoman empire.

my grandad rode a brough superior in the manx tt a couples of times .... he called it a rough interior and prefered riding the norton habit. £315,000 is a lot of money for a ride

Only thing I knew about them is that he was killed on one.

Yep, Clouds Hill. He was killed on the straight road between the house and the camp. Great mystery still abounds over the exact circumstances.

As an aside, Brough Superior also made a fabulous looking sports car too!

Durham Tees

The Brough name has been revived and they are making bikes again, or so I was led to believe. A new one costs about £50,000.

They have done some racing but it looks like a whole new Brough Superior is now available to those who can afford one. 'The new SS100 is a v-twin, built in a collaboration between Boxer Design and Akira Engineering.' It looks gorgeous!

I like works of art and especially from history looking at some of the paintings done in the Domes in mosques in turkey I think from the ottoman empire yes history Is a heavy mix of a lot of things some More colourful than others (away from The macabre side) enough Interest for Everyone.. ps saw the mosques on the Internet.

Just around the corner

Stone me! I thought conspiracy theories were a modern scourge.

I find the idea that Churchill (then a back bench MP), had MI5 kill Lawrence because he was possibly about to meet Hitler and join the BUF a bit far fetched. There were also a lot of other more prominent personalities who might have been better targets than the hermit Lawrence who had gone out of his way to keep out of the public eye.
