We used to have one like that, stuffed full of weird and wonderful things, but alas it is no more.

You have to know what you want when you go to BAndQs.....

These guys tell you everything you need and want......

I also shop in this little Indian shop,,they are so friendly

When my mum came over on holidays once...they made her a carrot cake...she was so chuffed.....

Changed her opinion on London

Cheeseville, Somerset

I appreciate the sentiment of supporting small, local businesses.

But if it's inconvenient, more costly or they simply don't have what I need - I'll go wherever.

The land of grey peas and bacon

My local shop is just too expensive to do a shop. For milk and sugar and bog roll it's great for anything else it's just too expensive

Still got some great little shops here that are very competitive, but sadly the town centre is just becoming Coffee Bars and Restaurants that open and close like a revolving door. The nice boutique shops and smaller chain shops are being driven out by high rates and reducing customer base. Even the mobile phone shops are closing

We did our bit.

Had a hot choccy in an independent coffee shop, a sandwich from a market cafe, a walk round some local artist & jewellery galleries and got the car valeted at a local business that employs local lads trying to get back on the straight & narrow.

Then cancelled out all the good work by going having a cupboard n fridge stock up at Asda

You didn't cancel it out. You could have had your coffee at the supermarket or one of the chains.

In Whitby, over the swing bridge, there's a lot little shops that have that Dickensian feel to them, there was one, sadly gone now I think, but they sold nuts, herbs, spices and the likes, they also made their own chocolate and sold organic honey, everything was stocked on wooden shelves, and hessian sacks on the floor, and the aroma you got when you walked in was amazing, it was like stepping back in time...just thought I'd throw it in the mix...

I'd normally be at the Dickensian Festival in Ulverston this time of the year and only spending money in little local shops and social enterprises.

Somehow I have avoided buying anything at all today.

"Go local today and support a small business.

In Daventry that would mean buying junk from a charity shop or office stationery. We have virtually no town centre to speak of (one short road) and that is 25% charity shops, 25% take aways and the majority of the remaining buildings are chains, banks and pubs

That's pretty dire.

Near me there is a shopping/eating street with only 1 chain outlet. Locals oppose every application that isn't an independent outlet. The one chain got through on a technicality.
