Breast Implants?

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Someone very close to me, has, since her teens in fact, felt very self conscious about her breasts.

And since giving birth, she feels that they've gotten smaller.

She's a petite lady, so in my view it's all in proportion - but I guess after 15+ years of feeling this way - my thoughts on the matter aren't going to have much of an impact.

She'd like another child first before considering enhancement surgery - nothing drastic - a c cup of some variety.

I have seen some profiles where the implants - although noticeable - do look attractive. But, I worry, particularly after recent reports of leaking implants and recurring stories of botched operations - how safe are these procedures? how does one find a reputable surgeon? How much does such an operation cost?

Modern day implants are generally safer than the ones they used years and years ago. I'd go to a company in the UK although the ones abroad are just as good but for after care purposes it would be easier to have it all in the UK. I had mine done with transform and back in 2007 they cost £3,950 but probably more now. I had 5 years aftercare includes with that and all my check ups were in the UK I also have a logbook for my implants with serial numbers for the left and the right one saying the date, time and place they were made along with details of my surgeon. All surgeons should be registered with BAAPS, so you can check their credentials. A good surgeon will show you portfolios of his previous work and discuss everything about the procedure including the risks.

I had my boobs done before I was ever pregnant and I was able to breast feed so wouldn't worry about waiting to have another child first.

Tell her to look at BAAPS, yes, its a real organisation, the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, that will have reputable surgeons on there and some information about implants, particularly after the PIP scandal.

There are also a number of support websites that emerged after the PIP scandal - all will be useful to join because a lot of women on there have had implants replaced - so their experiences will be invaluable.

As for cost £2-3k at a decent practice with a good surgeon.

I know I am a guy, but I have experience of someone who has implants, she loves them (as did I lol) and says it was the best thing she ever did. She had hers done for exactly the same reasons, children/breast feeding had, in her view, destroyed them.

She should study the various options regarding the surgical technique: below muscle or above as well as where incision will be as you can often see scar around nipple or below the breast (specially true if she is petite and her breasts are small / pert enough to pass the pencil test).

I had mine placed below the muscle through my arm-pit so I have no scars on the actual breasts. It hurt like HELL for 48 hours after surgery but I am very happy with the results.

Good luck!

I also had mine done with Transform. I had them done last July. My surgeon had also done a couple of girls implants who work with my husband. But I researched him online too. I think mine cost £3700 it was meant to be £3995 but we asked for a discount. They come with a 10 year guarantee.

I would recomend you look at the MHRA website and read the reports on impants, lots of advice there for those considering implants.

I think she wants to wait till having children in case it affects body shape...they become too big during pregnancy (she suffers from back problems as it is) and of course the feeding aspect.

I wasn't sure about it to begin with and to put her off I said I'd have penile extension surgery - or whatever the actual medical term is - but that didn't work!

This may sound weird but do they....feel 'nice'...'squishabl'e...'massageable'? And does the sensitivity change at all?

What's the pencil test?

Your post did make my tummy churn a little - it's a good thing I'm not having it done!!

Yeah I had to have sub muscular (under the muscle) implants because I had hardly no breast tissue! Just the basic info would be to go to a reputable clinic, you will meet your surgeon after your initial consultation and they give you lots of literature to read. Leading up to the procedure you'll be told exactly what to do like not take aspirin or certain meds leading up to the day, think it even said something about not eating mushrooms if I remember correctly! You take arnica tablets a few days leading up to the procedure and a week after to help with bruising and stuff. It's best if she just has a consultation they'll tell her everything she needs to know. I would tell her to go as big as she can though cos I am not happy with mine, I wanted them bigger but my surgeon said to go for the natural look but they do go down in size after the op! I want another one badly but no cash!

I waited until I'd had all my children before having them. Mine are extra sensitive since I've had them done. And they are very soft and squishy. Not like you'd imagine breast implants to feel. I think they've changed a lot over the years.

You ay they are soft and squishy but i really think you should let a third party, and i could be available, just to clarify this.

Would be done purely in the name of science and i could let eveyone on here know my findings.

She's probably a size 6 up top and 8-10 at the bottom... What is a good size before it starts looking ridiculous...?

Before pregnancy she was a 34B and has always wanted a 36C - I think this feeling has come about even more so recently because she's joined the gym and feels 'different'.

She's not one to show off her cleavage etc - just to be in proportion.

Lol - a dream scenario!

I did tell her that any sizeable increase will be noticeable and her friends will wonder - but she's very okay with that. Not sure if she's as okay with anyone copping a feel - though one can hope lol x

The pencil test is when a woman puts a pencil under her breast (while standing) if the pencil falls (ie the lower part of the breast does not touch the ribcage) you pass the test, if it stays then you are said to have "failed" the test. It is supposed to be an indicator of "pertiness" . If an incision is done just below the breast and the breast is too small to fold over the scar to disguise it then it can look rather unsightly. Also even in larger breasts you can still see scar there when woman in flat on her back.

I had very small boobs before and my family haven't even noticed I've had them done. But I did always wear padded bras before. Unless she went absolutely massive they really aren't that noticeable. When you tell people they are fake they do seem to want to have a feel of them lol.

Yours look great.

I'd have a reduction if it weren't for the frankenstein type scarring and the likelihood of loss of nipple sensation.

If she's 34B then she'd want a 34C the number is the back size so for her to want 36C she'd want to have a bigger back! Before I had mine done I was 32A after they are 32D but I want 32E or 32F because fake boobs don't sag the same way as a natural boob so I'd want a bigger implant to make them sag a bit more, you could override that and go for the tear drop shape anatomical implant but you're talking an extra 3 grand on top of the price of normal implants, a way to get round that is to go for bigger implants and let gravity make them look more natural.

There's a real science to this - I'll look at the teardrop you mentioned - maybe have one of my kidneys valued at the same time too!!
