I've had a problem for almost a year now with vulval dermatitis. I also know that I am not alone.
I have tried everything. My problems started as soon as I started swinging. Therefore it had something to do with condoms, lube or something I hadn't used in my life before.
Last night I read the results of a study into the most common allergens which was extremely interesting. Bear with me lol.
Tercozole was the treatment most likely to cause allergic reactions. It's used to treat fungal infections. Yup. That's right. It's in a cream and pessary form to treat thrush. Yet it causes most allergic reactions.
The biggest cause of my problem that I could see is benzocaine, which is used in condoms to delay ejaculation. It's a type of local anaesthetic. Unfortunately it needs to be in place for about 20 mins to anaesthetise the guy's glans before it has any effect anyway.
If it causes so many allergies why do they put it in so many brands?
Reading the bottles in my bathroom, my favourite shower gel will have to go. It's full of the most common allergens.
Does anybody know of any condoms that don't contain either latex or benzocaine?
I've contacted all the condom manufactures. It will be interesting to see what they have to say.
I feel like there's light at the end of the tunnel |

"Is benzocaine used in all condoms?"
I'm trying to find out. When I googled it all the manufacturers were very proud to tell us that it was in all their condoms but I was unable to find any that said they didn't have it.
I contacted all the manufacturers and I'll let you know when I receive answers. |

"You never used condoms before you started swinging??"
we hadn't for ages since I became pregnant at the age of 46 while using them. There's no need to if you're in a monogamous relationship and they aren't needed for some sort of protection against pregnancy. |

I've had a reply from Durex. Only two products in their range contain the chemical I suspect and they're the ones that claim to make the men last longer. I've got an appointment with a skin specialist soon so hopefully I'll soon have an answer. |
