I remember that. My dad saying turn the tv over. I'm sure we had a dial changer before push button came in

The technique of tuning in using the dial is something I still use to this day

Then a strange man would come every few weeks and empty the money box at the back of the tv....radio rentals i think.

Ahhh the dial changer and then you would still need to jiggle the aerial to get a decent pic

My dad was an electrical engineer so he put a big aerial in our loft eventually. I remember the knitting needle antenna you spent ages adjusting

our tv wasnt on that much - cant say i recall many ads - the nimble bread one - oxo of course - vicks nasal thingy - bt and the ology - pears soap - oh theyre all coming bac to me now

Think it was a shilling...didn't have gas just electric ....oh, and a coal fire. Ahhh the good old days
