Saw on the news. Terrible. Hope it doesn't mean it's headed our way, as often the US seems to get bad snows, then a week or two later we get it!

Lake affect snow is actually quite common, I think the size of the area effected is larger than normal, but 3 or 4' of snow is not unusual in that region.

There's some clips on you tube that show creeping ice on the great lakes which is quite a bizarre site to watch.
