He's not on his own

Research by XPro, a charity for ex-players, suggests that three out of five Premier League players ,who earn an average of £30,000 per week ,declare bankruptcy within five years of retirement.

It's a shame really as earning so much money in your early working years would give you a false sense of security, suppoes when you retire you still live that lifestyle without the income.

Dodgy investments and dodgy advisers are the obvious likely cause.

I suspect there is more to this than meets the eye. The various assets that the official receiver has sold is quite unusual.

He lives (lived) in the next village from me and was well liked by the locals. Although he never liked being called 'Calamity'.

There was a thing a few years ago when his wife was away, that he had an actress from Hollyoaks back at his home. Someone tipped of the paps and they were waiting with cameras as he drove her away.... I imagine the divorce cost him a few quid.

I watched a couple of games on TV and he looks poor - I think he is also managing the team he plays for

He was always a strange one. Confessed after a few bad games to being tired from being up playing on his Xbox all night.

Once said he would cross the picket line if footballers called a strike.

I revert back to that thing about people with two first names here is a good example

Agree with the dodgy investments and dodgy advisers. Stan Collymore lost millions on the advice of dodgy advisers into dodgy investment schemes and now we see Jimmy Bullard on "I'm a celebrity get me out of here" because he needs to recoup the money he lost on dodgy investments.

Bankruptcy DOESN'T mean you have no money it just means:

"Tax man, I want you to believe I have no money".

Isn't there a criteria you have to meet before you can be declared bankrupt? Maybe not completely broke but can't be far off....

He has probably just would up a plc he was involved in.

Rather than personally being bankrupt.

No sympathy here I am afraid.

I get mistaken for David James a lot... Here's hoping they don't register me bankrupt by mistake

On a serious not bankruptcy isn't the end of the world.

Richard Branson went bankrupt 8 times or something like that before making his fortune

But Branson is an entrepreneurial genius, not an ex - footballer.

"I get mistaken for David James a lot... Here's hoping they don't register me bankrupt by mistake is that because your a shit goaly and spend all your time picking the ball out the back of the net lol DJ spent more time facing the crowd behind him than the opposition
