"Different day, same thread.
Funny...I was thinking the same thing! "
Will add my default answer then, for deja vu sake:
"a wink means you are saying that you are too lazy to make an effort, but you'd like it if I made an effort with you. So, let's be clear, you can't be arsed, but you want me to be arsed." |

I use winks (not sure why tho, after reading the different threads on it!) & it's certainly, not a case of...I can't be arsed to be send a message, I always thought, it's a good way, to just let someone know, you like their profile & your interested! Maybe, that's just me... |

Much prefer a man that can take the time to send a nice mail.
I dont generally respond to winks as i think its an easy option and lacks effort.
For a single guy its the chance to introduce yourself and make an impression.

As you see mate there are those that do appreciate them and those that don't. Personally I think it is a cool ice breaker if welcomed by the other party. Check profiles to see if the person you are interested in acknowledges them or doesn't. If the person that you like does not like them, think of an alternative way of showing your interest. Good luck. |

A wink is perfect. I don't have to read a bloody mail then check out the profile.
A wink is perfect. It registers someone's interest and I only have to check out their profile.
A wink is perfect. I don't have to send a reply as they didn't send a mail.
A wink is JUST ... perfect.
Men have to write so many letters. We all acknowledge that. They have to try hard and get a very low percentage of replies in proportion to the mails they send. Given that and the fact that so many people here say 'I want a letter tailored to my profile', men would have to give up work AND employ a full time secretary to write all the mails.
A wink is just fine.
I want to meet for sex not interview
them for a lifetimes relationship.
Admin! N.B. Please can all the anti winkers have application forms and questionaires for winkers to fill in instead. Ta xx |

Exaggeration called, they'd like their definition back.
Funny how men start threads that ask why they get ignored, it seems they expect *us* to give up work and employ a secretary to to reply to all the emails? |

To the OP and the original question.
I think it's simply that there is no answer as it's a personal thing. Much like some people will like a "get your coat you've pulled" in a bar and others might like a little chat first.
Clearly this small cross section of the huge FS members is somewhat indicative of this fact.
It's better, perhaps, to treat each profile as a person, read it and decide what they want, before you wink / mail / fill out an application / run a mile. |

"I state in my profile that if you wink and I wink back. then impress me by message.
Saves the guys time and mine"
How?
You could just say "impress me by message" then it'd be faster than wink - wink - message, surely? |

Not that keen on winks.
If we were keen to meet, we would mail.
In the past we have had winks and responded by say something like "thank you, should you be interested get in touch" then nothing!
We will be honest and say we tend to delete them now.
Each to there own, but just not for us.

Well I think if there's one exceptionally clear fact about this site it's that most people don't read the profiles! |

Winks really do mean different things to different people.
For us a wink is "we like what we see in your profile do you like what you see in ours"
For others it means "can't be bothered typing a proper mail until you have at least shown an interest back"
So we love winks, where it falls down for us when you get a wink, check out the profile and like the one we got just minutes ago - 2 lines of text, no pictures whatsoever, live about 200 miles away, do they really expect us to wink back indicating we are interested.
We won't and that means we may actually be dissing someone we would actually like had we seen a bit more about them in a profile and a picture of them both, as our profile says, clothed pictures with faces blocked out or backs turned are fine for us on the initial contact. |
