A hotel has debited someones card of £100 as a fine for leaving bad feedback on TripAdvisor. Apparently it was in the small print of their T&Cs
Madness
Do you get a rebate if you leave something positive? |

If that's legal I'm opening a hotel.
I'll big it up in the description and then provide crap service to intentionally gain crap re_iews.
I'll be a millionaire this time next year! |

I saw that! Doubt you get a rebate
A hundred quid was a bit steep but how did they identify who wrote the re_iew?
If the name of the hotel gets out it'll do more damage than any bad tripadvisor re_iew. |

Apparently the lady didn't have her glasses so she couldn't read the print. Outrageous really but at £36 for a double room it wasn't going to be a top notch joint I guess.
I'm more than happy to receive negative feedback for free...heck ill even pay you for it. |

It was the hotel who fined them. |

I don't see how it's a fair part of terms and conditions, that's so harsh - and if it was £36 for a double room that's very cheap, they can't expect perfect re_iews! |

According to the DM's report it is the Broadway hotel in Blackpool. |

Seen this on the news yesterday.
surely its theft?
Doesn't matter if its in the terms and conditions (although thats madness in its self having somthing in small print to say somome cant leave a bad re_iew on a userbased site like trip advisor).
Should be illegal for anyone with somones bank details to withdraw any amount of money from their bank accounts.
even parking fines or speeding fines you have options to not pay fine and take it to court if so be.
whats to say somome with a similar/same name to somome posts a negative re_iew or even the hotel them selfs could get somome to make a bogus profile under somomes name who stsyed at their hotel and create a false negative re_iew so they can fine somome 100 quid.
this is nonsense and needs to be eradicated and quickly.
if somone has a bad/unenjoyable experience at a hotel they have every right (without being fined) to share that experience with others.

I don't think it's fair from what I have read I don't know how factual that.is though.
These re_iew sites are a double edged sword for hotels etc. although they do have right of reply. I see lots of hotels and restaurants responding with comments that imply the person said it was all fine at the time. |

Ok so maybe Fab could learn from this....create a Fuckadviser website and if anyone leaves bad re_iews about a meet a social a fuck then the person who is badly re_iewed can charge £100. Anyone up for a really shit fuck? |

Checked TripAdvisor and read two or three pages and only found one slightly positive comment, all the others were terrible.
Whether you pay £36 or £360, you expect a certain level of cleanliness which seems to be sadly lacking in this place |

"Maybe they hit all their guest for 100 pounds, as most of them will have thought of complaining."
I think some would be turning up back on the hotel doorstep I know I would. |

You must read a lot of them to come to that conclusion! |

I work in a restaurant, and I personally go through all of the re_iews we get. Some people leave negative re_iews about stupid things sometimes. I had a complaint before about serving a tea with no lid on the pot.
I don't even think trip advisor works very well. Every time you go to a restaurant, you'll get s vastly different experience every time.
As for the £100 fine, that's a little O.T.T. |

I'd complain about no lid on a teapot but I'd do it at the time, I wouldn't wait until I got home and then log on to an internet site to do it. I swear some people are composing their re_iews as they eat |

• Tony Jenkinson and wife Jan stayed at the Broadway Hotel in Blackpool
• Described it as a 'rotten stinking hovel' in negative re_iew on TripAdvisor
• But they later found out that their credit card had been billed an extra £100
• Couple discovered that the hotel’s policy was to charge for ‘bad’ re_iews
• Trading standards believe hotel may have breached trading practice rules
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/travel_news/article-2840131/Couple-fined-100-hotel-called-hovel-re_iew-Punishment-TripAdvisor-comments-illegal.html#ixzz3JVoHpOD2
So the "fine" was not imposed by TripAdvisor but by the hotel and is being challenged.
After all the negative publicity I would have thought any fines collected would have been small change to the cost of the reputational damage caused. Superb own goal from hotel owners. |

Id like to see anyone charge my credit card (dont have one)
if anyone took money out my bank, id remove goods to the value of what they took.
I DGAF about a lot of things, but mess with my kids or my money and its getting nasty.
We staying in a hotel this weekend....best be nice.

"I always leave a good re_iew if i leave the bedsheets all wet and sticky that happens quite a lot without a lid on the teapot " Aye, i forgot to say, i use all the wee sugar things in my tea so it's quite syrupy. I would leave a bad re_iew however if there were any less than 6 bags for my use |

A genuine re_iew from TripAdvisor....
This place is filthy,it really needs closing down, bedroom full of mould no heater,no hot water, beds need throwing away, couldn't bear to eat breakfast staff drinking cans of strongbow while serving breakfast, could not wait to get out of this place and get home to bath. environmental need to get in there quick....
Dont think they liked it |

Regardless of the legality of it, the naivety of the hotel owners is what matters - the bad press they are receiving will be 100s times worse than the one bad re_iew on trip advisor. (or more as other previous guests check their card balances…)
Greed and paranoia could have just been the death knell for the hotel in question - who would go there now? |

"What did they expect for £36? The Hanging gardens of Babylon? A herd of Wildebeest majestically swooping across the open plains???"
No but you do expect cleanliness, and good service no matter how much you pay |

"What did they expect for £36? The Hanging gardens of Babylon? A herd of Wildebeest majestically swooping across the open plains???" i have paid £36 for a holiday premier travel express inn lodge type place many times. I expect a clean tidy room at the very least.

As someone with legal qualifications I really doubt this is legal!
If they want do so something, they (the hotel that is) would have to sue in defamation albeit they would not get very far.
If the terms and conditions did say that then I suspect they would fall foul of the UCTA.
Shocking |

After looking at the pics on the re_iews....blurrgghhh.
I then went onto the site that books the hotels and I could have 3 nights for two for £45 quid right now including breakfast ( plus filth and not in a good way ) and 53 people have just booked holidays there.
I smell bullshit |

I would be tempted to go back and cause a hundred quids worth of damage. But I don't think they could actually do enough damage without actually demolishing the place completely. |

Oy!! Careful or you'll have an irate Lancastrian on your hands! It's fun for a day/night or two! xx"
No. It isn't. Its a vomit flecked hellhole that smells of stale beer, rancid chip fat and echoes to the sound of cackling harpies on hen nights. The hinterland is quite nice though. |
