from Maya Angelou.

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.

I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size

But when I start to tell them,

They think I’m telling lies.

I say,

It’s in the reach of my arms,

The span of my hips,

The stride of my step,

The curl of my lips.

I’m a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That’s me.

I walk into a room

Just as cool as you please,

And to a man,

The fellows stand or

Fall down on their knees.

Then they swarm around me,

A hive of honey bees.

I say,

It’s the fire in my eyes,

And the flash of my teeth,

The swing in my waist,

And the joy in my feet.

I’m a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That’s me.

Men themselves have wondered

What they see in me.

They try so much

But they can’t touch

My inner mystery.

When I try to show them,

They say they still can’t see.

I say,

It’s in the arch of my back,

The sun of my smile,

The ride of my breasts,

The grace of my style.

I’m a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That’s me.

Now you understand

Just why my head’s not bowed.

I don’t shout or jump about

Or have to talk real loud.

When you see me passing,

It ought to make you proud.

I say,

It’s in the click of my heels,

The bend of my hair,

the palm of my hand,

The need for my care.

’Cause I’m a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That’s me.

Very good.

A more manly poem by Douglas Adams.

I teleported home one night with Rodney, Sid and Meg.

Meg stole Rodneys heart away

And I got Sydney's leg.

Or Spike Milligan

Four Echidnas got out of their car

And walked up the hill led by Pa

When they got to the top

Their father cried "Stop! "

Please do not lean over too far

How far can can we lean?

Yes, what do you mean?

Oh do show us dear Da

No further than than that

Said dad and then Splat!

He just lay looking up shouting Arghhhhhhh.

Try a bit of 'Your laughter' from Pablo Neruda

My struggle is harsh and I come back

with eyes tired

at times from having seen

the unchanging earth,

but when your laughter enters

it rises to the sky seeking me

and it opens for me all

the doors of life.

While we are being poetic, here is another!

I carry your heart with me(I carry it in]

BY E. E. CUMMINGS

I carry your heart with me(I carry it in

my heart)I am never without it(anywhere

I go you go,my dear;and whatever is done

by only me is your doing,my darling)

I fear

no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)I want

no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)

and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant

and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows

(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud

and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows

higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)

and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

I carry your heart(I carry it in my heart)

I am not going to copy & paste it here but 'A brave and startling truth' is, imho, the work of Maya Angelou at her best.

That poem actually changed how I viewed the world.

'Still I rise' is an awesome piece of work too.

Her poems carry a particular resonance when you hear the lady herself recite them.

She brought more than one lump to my throat over the years.

There are holes in the sky

Where the rain comes in

But they're ever so small

That's why rain is thin

Not my favourite but one I just wrote.....

Fallen

I see the leaves golden and brown,

Reflecting the sunlight on the morning dew.

With whispy bronze tipped clouds around,

The sky still gleams that iridescent blue.

As I was walk my senses awaken with the pleasure,

Of the feel of the crisp air and bracing breeze.

To spend this time, just at my leisure,

Listening to the crunch of fallen leaves.

Being immersed and surrounded by breathtaking beauties,

My thoughts inevitably return to your face,

Amidst the drop of the orchard fruit trees,

Reminding me of forbidden fruit I long to taste.

No matter where I am, I can't escape, the longings of my heart,

And like the fallen leaves, strewn by the wind,

I wish to be free of the branch from where I start.

Yet still I am rooted right where I've been.

But like the leaves, deep down I know I've fallen,

No longer attached to the tree on which I grew,

My old self must now welcome winter and die to be reborn,

With memories to cherish and sweet dreams of you.

Cardiff

Mary had a little lamb

she tied it to a pylon

5000 volts shot up its arse

and turned its wool to nylon

I wrote this one...super cheesy.

Beguiling

Love and all its smells remind you,

Sounds of it cause sighing

A shiny carousel of laughter.

The door to that world's dying.

Waiting at the entrance are the sighs and smiles of youth.

The one whose heart you're hunting sits right inside of you.
