Surely what this guy got up to was an outrageous waste of military personnel and equipment?
"So; is the 9th Prince of Wales' own infantry regiment ready to fight against our arch-enemy, Napoleon?"
"Well, the regiment is under the command of his Grace the Duke of York"
"and how has he prepared this regiment?"
"Well, apparently, Field Marshal, he's spent the past nine months; and I quote from the official report:"arsing about marching them up and down a hill.""
My own theory is that the man was a manic depressive. I mean, when he was up, he was up. But when he was down, he was down.

I thought the purpose was to break the person, so you could find out who really wanted it and after going through all that, remould them into what you wanted without ever questioning orders for fear of losing it.
But maybe it's just exercise  |
