Currently munching on a Tesco all butter mince pie and wondering who makes the nicest ones. I'm partial to the Co-op puff pastry ones,I once ate 4 in a day |

4 pack over the course of the day. Bottom of my list is Costco,theirs are all pie and no mincemeat and the pastry is claggy. I'm going to try M&S but not the toilet cleaner flavoured once |

For me, usually any supermarket "best quality" one that's been heated in the oven and then left to cool is the business. I hate having them cold straight from the box. |

Yeah - I haven't had any this year so the jury's out at present but I agree with the Costco comment - they may be big but you might as well just eat a plate of dough!! |

We actually did a spreadsheet of this at work last December when everyone who came across mince pies in any shop or supermarket bought a couple and we had lunchtime taste tests. There were categories (filling, pastry and filling-pastry ratio). We even tried posh Fortnum and Mason hamper ones. None of us have eaten or been able to look at a mince pie since but Waitrose and Lidl both did well. Harrods was disappointing. |

Homemade. Can't stand the suet in mince pies- why would anyone want to eat little lumps of fat yak!
I make my own mincemeat using mixed fruit, cider and spices, bring to the boil. Simmer until reduced allow to cool then add a big glug of brandy and jar it and let it mature. It can be used straight away but better the more it matures. |

Iceland claim they've got the best mince pies in the country. And their advert board inside and outside their stores boldly say this and also mentions every other supermarket by name, including Waitrose. |

You don't need any skills to make it! Seriously it's as simple as a couple of bags of mixed fruit, bung in a pan, add cider to cover and simmer for about a hour, keep adding cider to keep it from drying.
Then when making mince pies you can even cheat make a huge one instead. A sheet of ready to roll pastry, whatever you fancy, short crust, filo or puff. Lay the sheet on a baking tray, put mixture on one side fold over and seal with water.

I make the best ones. I can't stand shop bought pastry or mincemeat. I make my own using Hugh fearnley-whittingstall recipe with minced beef in. Bloody lovely. |

All the flavours were there and did salvage some nice pastry for eating With Ingredients as well blackberrys
