Legal disclaimers on here!

As I sift through some of the profiles on here, I've noticed a lot of people are partial to tagging on a little disclaimer, in an attempt to deter people from using/redistributing their information and/or photos.
It doesn't bother me much, but I just wanted to pass on a bit of what I've learned. Basically, what you've written is useless. I pay particular attention to those who quote either the Human Rights Act, or the European Convention on Human Rights. Both of these pieces of legislation operate on a purely vertical basis (i.e. between a private individual/party and a government authority), and are completely useless against other private individuals. In fact, there is no real private law in the UK governing "the right to privacy".
The closest thing we have to such a thing is the law of "breach of confidence". But that requires you to provide the information or photos to the sneaks in the first place!
Why do you think celebs take out injunctions and super-injunctions instead? |

It's all nonsense anyhow as the minute you post a photo on the internet it becomes public property unless that photo is marked and registered as copyright.
It's why these websites can use revenge porn without getting into trouble or money issues. |

No no no super injunctions can only be obtained by people with super powers like superwoman or spiderman. The rest of us have to make do with the basic model. QED |

The legal disclaimer was started by a journalist investigating how quickly the public would spread useless info. The other famous one was the story about swallowing 8 spiders in your sleep over your life time... |

^this. And in any case, whatever privacy laws exist in this country, may not apply in another - and as anyobe, anywhere in the world, including Sydney, any national laws are meaningless |

Total nonsense, all photos, and in fact all these messages are copyright the second they are put down in a tangible form. Courts include emails and online photos in this description.
There is and never has been the requirement of a copyright symbol in the UK or copyright registration either.
It is automatic. |

It's completely illogical I know. How would this ever be implemented? I sometimes see profiles with two different versions of it and hardly any profile wordage. It makes me grrrr! |

How about: BEWARE! Some single female profiles have appeared which seem to be above board and verified, yet when you turn up to meet them are part of a TV show called Swinger Sex Secrets for Reality Channel. Notice: I do not give consent for my profile or pictures to appear on this show, neither do I consent to appearing on the show. And breach of these rights will result in legal action being taken.
I think as memes go this is just plausible enough to work. Shall post it on my profile and see how long it takes before I see it on someone else's! Added advantage is that it may cut down on some of the mail single ladies get! |

Don't forget - by simply putting 'NO TIMEWASTERS!!!' (Shouty capitals mandatory) you are guaranteed to never be bothered by such folk.
I'm thinking of trademarking the word 'genuine' too!
Would make a friggin fortune the amount of times it's used on here!

Right have a look at nearly all used internet images you will see they have wrote on them "getty images" these are licenced copyrighted images , getty will pursue you through the courts if you post one on your profile.
If you've ever tried patenting an idea the first thing they will tell you is that your absolutely forbidden to talk about the idea to anyone including family as once the idea is public ,you cannot patent it, the internet is a public domain.
If you can't prove ownership of an item (ie the original should have some marking) you can't legally claim it's yours anyhow. |
