Just watching the Sunday supplement on sky in which four hacks discuss all things football. One of the topics being aired is the lack of black / ethnic minorities in football management and coaching.
The main plank of the discussion is that black or ethnic minorities are employed to play and as soon as their physical attributes diminish their skills are discarded. Is this an example of institutional racism ? |

the statistics would suggest otherwise. It seems that less than 4% of management and back room staff are either black or from an ethnic background. |

No, it's an example of them not being the best qualified person to do the job that they may have applied for. It happens to ALL people, in ALL roles, regardless of age, colour, gender etc. |

Of course it's institutional racism. What other explanation could there be for the statistics? And this happens in any industry where there is a lack of transparency with employment practices. Friends hiring friends etc. |

In my opinion, this is all just blown out of proportion by the media. What they neglect to tell us is how many non white former players are applying for these roles. If they did then we could judge whether there is racism or not. As it stands, it may be that the rates of employment for non white candidates may be 100%. Until they publicise how many non white candidates are rejected for these roles I will not believe that football is institutionally racist |

Whats with the ? Maybe some players aren't interested in back room jobs. Maybe they just like playing football? It's not that hard to comprehend is it?
How do you know what all football players want? Have you interviewed them all?
As you seem to know all the stats, what are the percentages of black applicants to white applicants for back room staff jobs? Not actual people doing the job. That will real us whether 4% is disproportionate or not. |

I think that it's just another strand of institutional racism and the mark of white middle class exclusion. It was interesting that no one asked why there was 0.001% of women in the board room of the top 70 clubs in the UK

If you look for racism and delve deep enough you can make most things look different to what they actually are.. How many applicants that were black applied for the jobs.. Do we rule out Van Gaal and Morinyo and Venger.. I never heard of other applicants getting turned away.. is it targetted at GB... Spain.. France etc... Last time I looked the man with the biggest job in the world is black and I don't hear a lotnof people going on about it... just when it suits... Pele didn't do too bad. . Cisse.. Agbonlahor.. Ronaldo.. in the modern game a lot of people make a great living here and abroad... I support a team not a prejudice.. I know it's a forum and I've shown my opinion.. Thankyou. . HIM |
