just heard the commentator on the european athletics say "the frenchman plants his pole in the box and tries to stay in there as long as possible".......... is that why the english guys are no good at pole vault ???

I've often wondered how an event like the pole vault came into existence. Did someone somewhere get a particularly bendy branch and try and jump something with it? Strange event, and not something us English want to be associated with lol  |
