After speaking to my oncologist this morning and being informed I will need yet abother surgery as soon as next week, I'd like to urge ALL of you to check your breasts for lumps or ANY changes!!!
As most of you know, I've managed to shake of breast cancer twice, being given the all clear most recently, back in March. Discovered another lump a couple of weeks ago, marched off to the doctors and now facing surgery and probably more radiotherapy....a small price to pay for my life.
If I'd not checked my boobs, I'd not be here now, yes cancer is scary, but the earlier it's detected, the better chance you have of beating it!
Just wanted to raise a little awareness and hopefully prompt lots of you to either check yourselves, or ask your doctor to check at your next appointment! Takes five mins, and could save your life! |

some people get no symptoms....obviously getting your GP to check is the best option, but checking yourselves regularly is important so you are aware of any changes |

Not 100% sure if I'll need it yet....surgery's my only definite atm.
All the best to your mum! Hope she's well again soon! |

I've been there myself three times and on meds for life now. Just had my annual mammogram and check-up. Cannot emphasize enough how important it is to check regularly. xxx |

Do be aware as someone above said. My brush with breast cancer DCIS was only found on a routine mammogram.
I missed one and was called a month later. No lumps or puckering tenderness no signs at all, but inside the milk ducts were signs on cancer developing. I was in for a lumpectomy within 2 weeks.Just 3 weeks radiotherapy.I was very lucky.
I do hope the Op will be ok and find strength in going through this again. I was extremely nervous after my 2nd year check incase they found something so I appreciate how nervous and upset you must feel. good luck keep us posted.x

I've had three ops, two reconstructive ops, chemo and radio therapies and now have to take meds for life, but I'm still here still got one natural boob and nipple, and ladies it has never put men off having sex with me, even when I spent two years waiting for my reconstructive surgery.
I can be quite glib about it all at times and see nothing remarkable in what I've done but my GP, the oncologists, plastic surgeons, radiographers, cancer nurses and clinicians ALL have my greatest admiration and support. Knock the NHS all you like but they have kept this old knacker going and going and will do for years to come.
NHS peeps I SALUTE YOU! xxxx |

should a professional check (as in one that we do ourselves, not a mamogram) be offered when women have their smear tests?
i have watched vids etc of how to do it and have a feel when i am in the shower but it would be good if, at a routine check for cervical cancer a routine check or lumps and bumps was offered. it wouldnt cost the NHS any more as there is no specialist equipment and it wouldnt make the appointment much longer. |
