Sex education in school - The Brook Tool

Has anyone come across this, the Brook Traffic Light Tool for sex education, broken down into "relevant" age groups.
I can't believe what i'm seeing.
No doubt it would break the rules to give quotes here so here's and article with link.

My 9 year old asked me how babies are made a few weekes ago, I told him straight that the lady has eggs, the man has sperm (like tadpoles), he puts his Willy inside the lady and the tadpoles swim to the egg and the one who gets there first makes the baby. He burst out laughing and told me to shut up!! |

I actually agree with the article. I think we have to be realistic as to what young people are doing these days. it clearly states that the lawful age for sex is 16 however acknowledges that children under this age are sexually active. Shout and scream all you want, say people are wrong for teaching this.....But under age sex between school children is going on, no matter how uncomfortable it makes us feel. |

When children of 13 and 14 are having babies, when children of 14/15 are diagnosed as having an sti, I think the more educated they are, the better.
I know of many young people who have regular access to some very very hardcore porn via smartphones.
It seems that whilst there are many parents who have ensured their children's phones have parental controls, many have not. Which means that they can easily share some very inappropriate videos amongst each other.
Education is needed to help counter/explain this to children yet there is a constant outcry whenever schools attempt to address this.
Get your head out of the sand and realise that your children may well have been exposed to some pretty serious stuff well before they are 16, no matter how vigilant you have been. |

I don't see the problem myself I have always been transparent about sex and answered all my sons questions open and honestly. He knows what sex is, he knows how babies are made, he knows about sexual diseases but he also understands about the bigger picture and about it being the right time, how relationships develop etc etc, we talked about it all when we discussed puberty and importance of keeping clean. I'm all for early sex education in schools, when we had sex education in my school half the class had already lost their virginity |
