So I'm a single girl
I can change light bulbs but that's about it
What do other single people do when they need shelves putting up etc ?
Do you learn to do it or pay someone ?

"Learn how to do it. It saves you lots of money and you get to feel satisfied when you've done it...."
I wouldn't have a blooming clue ! I am so not technical |

I try my hardest to be independent, I mended the mower lead properly when I ran over it, I laid a new floor in the shed, build raised beds, changed the wheel on the hire car on holiday, but there are some things I just cant do and need a "man who can" |

First, you need to buy some power tools.
Doesnt matter what sort, as you will never use any of them, I personally go for the biggest and shiniest but that's just me.
Secondly, you need a shed. This is to store your shiny new power tools in, but more importantly, you can skulk in there, drink beer and read porn.
Thirdly, you need half a bag of cement which has gone hard and is totally useless. This MUST be kept in the shed in the place where you will trip over the most.
Fourthly, you need a jam jar, or if you want to be really professional, a coffee jar, full of assorted nails and screws and bits of metal that you have long forgotten the use for. If these items are mainly rusty and bent, all the better.
Finally, you need a set of tools. As a bare minimum you need 27 spanners, none of which will ever fit any nut you wish to work on, 9 screwdrivers all either flat head or Phillips. A hammer - for hammering in the screws for which you don't have the correct screwdriver.
You can now attempt any DIY task with total confidence.

Get yourself a tool box and a basic starter kit: hammer;screwdriver set;adjustable wrench. A drill will be useful in the long run. Buy everything in pink so the men won't borrow them and keep them. A spirit level is a very handy tool too,oh and a tape measure |
