Left for work and noticed a funny noise. Pulled over to find a completely flat tyre.

No spare, no pump (yep stupid me). Now waiting for metros - having just missed the first one, had to do a change over and missed that one by seconds also.

Now late for work and have let down a bunch of people that were waiting for me .

It can only get better, right?

Pain in the arse! But, even though you're gutted to have let down those people it's something entirely out of your control. These things happen - but you can't blame yourself and I'm sure neither will they.

Hope the day gets better, hey it's almost the weekend!

I had to cancel a meeting the other day because I'd nipped into town first thing and parked in a car park - only to return to said car park 5 minutes later to discover they were doing their bi-annual unannounced fire evacuation drill !

Which meant I couldn't get to my car for half an hour.

Missed the meeting that had been planned for weeks and had involved a lot of diary juggling.

Fuckers!!

I feel your pain. I managed to pick up a bolt in a 6-week old tyre while on the M1 the other day. I have a spare but Alfa decided that it's only suitable if your car came with 16" wheels, mine is a limited edition and came with 18's so the spare is useless! So £300 for a pair of new F1's and I have a full sized spare on order. The rattling of a can of tyre weld in the boot is doing my head in.

The pound shop near me sometimes has that tyre inflating foam in and it's very handy. I have been stuck on the side of the road before now despite the fact that o have a spare and know how to change it because I can't get the damn wheel nuts loose!

So carrying a can of tyre foam means that I know I can always get to where I'm going even if I can't loosen the nuts.

As handy as that stuff is you don't want to be driving more than 30 miles without changing the tyre, it also knackers the valve and is not suitable for damage near or on the sidewall of the tyre.

I know about the distance you can drive, and about having to keep your speed under 50mph on it - though since my spare is a doughnut it's the same with that.

And yes it means a tyre is not repairable. But if I can continue my journey to get somewhere safe or to a tyre outlet it's all good. Being stuck on the side of the road in the dark or somewhere lonely or on the side of the motorway is not fun, especially as a woman alone.

OMG! What a nightmare, ok thats a little bit worse than my predicament.

The can thing is one of the most annoying irritations in the world!

I bet you don't move it for ages though .

Would a hug help?

My top tip is to remove your wheel nuts (one at a time) while your car is at home and apply some grease to the threads and then refit them to the manufacturer advised torque settings (double check after about a week). This should cure the problem of not being able to get the nuts loose in future. I'd also recommend that a little grease is also appliedto the face of the wheel hub too, this stops the wheel corroding itself to the hub and requiring a mallet to get it off.

Get a new spare tyre if it's bald. Black Circles and Mytyres are good places to get them from cheaply.

I carry a pump at all times too, just in case and the tyre hadn't deflated (I could hear the offending bolt hitting the road) so I simply added a couple of extra PSI and headed home and ordered new tyres.

The can of tyre weld foam will be going in the bin once my new spare arrives.

Its a doughnut not bald! A doughnut is one of those spares that isn't the same size as the normal tyres, it's narrower. So it's only for occasional use and can't be used over 50mph.

You mean a space saver. The one I had in mine was also a space saver but sadly the rolling radius was nowhere near correct so it's in the bin and I'm just awaiting delivery of a full sized spare, the good tyre I took off the back will be going on it.

I've left home without my purse and can't go back to get it. It's going to be a long hungry day.
