for me, its important people have things that the believe in and are prepared to make a stand about.
Without that we'll all be like the guy in the Fast Show sketeches who changes his viewpoint to agree with whatever the last person has said.
without people prepared to be passoionate about things which are important to them we'd also have a society that never developed or progressed. Rosa Parks, Emmilene Pankhurst, Elizabeth fry, Gorbachev, Tom Paine, William Wilberforce ....the list is endless
the key thing is how you go about expressing yourself ..that balance between having an opinion and being opinionated maybe. The ability to listen to and accept anothers view, without losing your own or resorting to the extremes of behaviour in response |

here here....... can't think of anything worse than being a "sheep" or a "fence sitter" depending on which way the wind is blowing......
I might not like an opinion but I respect those who stand by theres regardless of what I think |

Well as most know I'm very much a fence sitter (the bloody splinters are the main problem)
But like others i do have opinions and sometimes express them on here
The thing i realise though is that we are all different we have all lead different lives and seen and done different things
And that is the reason why we have different opinions
So i tend ta take that into account
The thing i hate is peeps with pushy opinions (im right and you are wrong)
And feel that aggressive pushing of an individual's opinion is very sad xx |

I'm ok with people having opinions but what rankles me are those who simply refuse to believe anything to the contrary even when provided with irrefutable evidence that supports it. It beggars belief just how many people believe in conspiracies at every turn when there is absolutely no evidence to back it up, yet they believe it so much that they've convinced themselves it's the truth and nothing will sway them from that belief.
Would it surprise you to know that there are STILL people who believe man has never gone to the moon and that NASA/US Govt staged the whole thing in a studio! What kind of stupidity leads someone to believe that?
Incidentally, there was no Big Bang, it was just God moving some furniture about on the bare wooden floors he has up there in Heaven in preparation for some new carpets he was getting fitted. |

grin, I only said what a lot of people think !
i struggle most with people who's views are hugely opposed to mine. While i stand up for people's rights to have their own view some of them are easier to see merit in than others...and Im with wishy here , the conspiracy theorists are one of the hardest groups I find, along with those who believe in standpoints that for me are bigotted.
have just learnt to carry on with what's right for me |

Something that the world cannot do without, and there are very few site members actively using the forums who don't have one at some time or other.
What is a soap-box but a tool to make yourself heard - ooooh it's a forum
congratulations on using yours and long may you use it |

My Soapbox - by someone whose opinion doesn't really matter except to himself and anyone who cares to agree but hopefully makes others think about thier own opinions then either believes they are right or perhaps other peoples views have some merit.
I for one have had my opinions changed by things I have read in these and other forums, and sometimes they have simply re-affirmed my own opinion.
You don't have to agree with what I say only respect my right to say it. |

Whilst I can often disagree with someone's opinion, I don't have a problem with anyone airing it...or in them challenging mine....what I find incredible is how many people seem unable to challenge/be challenged about opinions without becoming aggressive or even worse, abusive. |
