Im not a nurse (although yes, I do have the outfit!!)....if you definitely can't remove it yourself,at least go to your doctors as an infection can set in very quickly!
In the meantime, enjoy being sat with your foot up looking out to sea..... |

Try sterilising a needle (boil on stove for 5 mins) then see if you can catch it with the needle. If not get some drawing salve from the chemist pop it on the splinter cover With a plaster and after 24 hrs it will be easy to remove. I believe a paste of baking powder works too |

OK. Splinter still there, toe is very sore. Woke up this morning and my knee has swollen and I cant bend it.
Coincidence or worth getting it checked out? Only asking as I hate wasting the doctors time |

get it looked at by a doctor. An infection can get in your blood and make you very ill |

"On the medical front, anybody got any useful tips for a cracked rib, other than rest and pain killers?"
As long as it's not sticking out of your body or anything, there's not a lot that can be done for a cracked rib. Painkillers and waiting for it to heal is about it, I think.
Having never had one though someone else may know better. |

Is your Tetanus up to date?
Remember the other name is lockjaw, if you start getting and strange sensation in your face worry!
If you can't get into your GP go to A and E, septicaemia is a serious issue, it can kill the otherwise healthy if you don't get it sorted. |

It's excruciating, but one consolation. The pain shouldn't last long. |

Remember you can alternate cocodamol and ibuprofen so you take pain relief every 2-3 hours. Just don't exceed the daily maximum for either. That's pretty much the strongest over-the-counter option.
If that isn't cutting it, see your GP for better pain meds.
That's assuming you haven't already got prescription pain meds, obviously. |

"On the medical front, anybody got any useful tips for a cracked rib, other than rest and pain killers?"
I cracked my ribs 2 Sundays back at rugby training. Usual routine, ibuprofen and no heavy lifting etc. last Sunday while sat down to enjoy a pub lunch I sneezed (while putting pepper on my roast) and put my whole back in to spasm...then sneezed again for good measure! I was in agony and rigid, not in a good way! Then followed a trip to the on call GP for diazepam which didn't work and ended up in A&E til 1am! Apparently I have torn muscles and nerve damage and have been dosed up on diclofenac and co-codomol all week and off work!! No pepper for me in the foreseeable future lol. |

Ive seen the doc and they reckon my toe has a pimple not a splinter, but its too small to pop
And they reckon its fluid on the knee from kneeling down doing DIY. Recommended Ibuprofen and if it doesnt get better to go back and have a drain if it gets worse.
So, its feet up and watching shite TV and talking to you lot for the day |
