Gazza ain't looking too healthy..just seen a picture and he does not look a well bunny. I've also just read he has been sectioned. I think he has well and truly been beaten by alcohol...it's really sad.  |

I hope I'm wrong, I really, really do, but I'll be surprised if he sees out the decade to be honest.
Such a sad situation - the world at his feet, such talent, to this.
I hope he can clear his demons once and for all and come back a strong, healthy man once again, but I have my doubts. |

Nah he is well and truly fucked. Seen it all too often in a professional capacity and there is a point of no return with substance misuse and I think he is well and truly at the point of no return.. |

Alcoholism is the biggest killer in the uk but the BMA will not allow it on death certificates such a shame as highlighting alcoholism and the effects on the body could potentially save people. |

Worked for a few years at the Hilton park lane and quite often had a drink at the local in shepards market ,at the bar with out fail was George best ,he would chat to any one but always pissed you could see where it was going to end and unfortunately I think gazza has booked his seat beside him ,such a shame |

I read his book, and the first half was interesting lots of tales to tell. But then it all went downhill for him....As much as I'd love to wish him well......I can't see it happening...shame |

It's sad, people that are in that spiral can't see what we see, as outsiders looking on. Alcoholism is a terrible addiction that ruins lives and tears families apart. Professionals, friends and family can't do it for Gazza, they can try, but at the end of the day he's the only one that can beat it. I'm not sure he can and it's incredibly sad. Like a previous poster it reminds me of George Best. |

My mum died of alcoholic liver disease and it was something we could not get beyond. My dad is going the same way, which I cannot get my head around as he saw and felt the effect my mum's death had on us as a family. Very powerful illness. I am distancing myself from my dad now. Once was hard enough.  |

Here is an interesting question.do you think that gazza, best, and other famous/rich people who have died (yeah I know gazza is still alive but think the damage is done tbh) do you think that they would have ended up going the same way in life had they not had access to huge amounts of money?

they say people with addictive personalities will always find something to rule their lives - my bro-in-law was a junkie and alcoholic - he now works for NA - totally thrown himself into it the other way - but he does this with all things and never does anything half heartedly - |

I am not sure, an addictive personality can be in anyone whether they are rich and famous or an ordinary person with no money. I don't know anything about it but it does seem to be a disease that can strike anyone regardless of their status in life..... |

Speaking as someone who has been to the edge and back, I agree with the comments about addictive personality.
I have always found something to replace the previous one.
Luckily, never drugs or smoking.
Exercise, sex, eating, cleaning

I have zero sympathy for him.
He had the world at his feet but chose alcohol. He's been given help numerous times but still chosen the bottle. The only reason he's still receiving help and support is because he's a celebrity. |

I'm inclined to agree with you although I do have some sympathy for him. I had a relative who died because of alcohol addiction and it's sad to see. |

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. Being rich, famous, talented etc. doesn't necessarily add up to being a well adjusted person. I know a couple in their 40's who have everything going for them, but the husband suffers terribly with anxiety issues. These things aren't always black and white. People shouldn't be too quick to judge. |

Ive been there with my mum. Dead at 57. Alcoholism runs in my family. Seeing what happened to my mum stops me from drinking. |

My sister and I and our kids are not drinkers either. I do drink don't get me wrong, but aware of the dangers. I just wish my dad was educated positively by what happened, alas ce la vie |

Very sad story and one that looks like it's only going to end well. His family must feel so helpless, and I'm sure Gazza feels the same - his demons have never really gone away. |

Anybody that's behaved in the same manner.
He's asked for help, he's received it and then promptly gone back to the booze.
I'm not one that subscribes to the "alcoholism is an illness" theory.
It's an addiction and a lifestyle choice, you break the cycle and kick the habit of you want to get better. You don't wallow in self pity complaining it's hard, you fight to beat it.
Sorry if that's harsh but it's my _iew and it's not going to change any time soon.... |
