I once logged in to find I had FOUR unread messages, seriously I was blown away, I started foaming at the mouth and everything - ok so I was brushing my teeth at the time, but it was still a big surprise

Aye agreed, I have a small but select band of 'banter buddies' and it's about quality rather than quantity for me

Maybe I'm on here too often but the 'unread' pile has never built up very far!

I think if they're unread after a certain length of time they start to disappear.

I've deleted many times, but not accidentally. It even asks you if you're sure!

If there were an option to delete all the unread messages, I would, but alas you can only either delete 'all read' or 'all'...

I do delete a fair amount as I go along, but there's some messages I still want to keep.

I have 47 unread messages purely because I use mobile app and once they go off the page they're gone until I log onto the app on my laptop

I never delete any mail i just notice my inbox number getting lower and lower and they drop off the end after a certain amount of time, no idea how long they stay there before they are automatically removed but I have noticed them go

I've done this twice meaning to 'delete all read' sent messages, and then had to put up a status asking people to contact me if I had not replied!! It could simply be the truth.

I've accidentally blocked people when I'm reading messages and I've had times where unread messages have dropped off the bottom of my inbox. Don't think I've ever accidentally deleted my whole inbox thoe.

Guess it can happen if you press "delete all" instead of "delete all read"
