I went to stay with a friend overnight a few years ago. The following day, after I'd left, he got home to find a note on his gate asking if the owner of the Civic (my car) was interested in selling it. |

No - it could be a distraction burglary, or a chancer trying his luck. We get door-to-door people, they spend their whole lives travelling about going door-to-door living off their wits. Be careful. |

Awww no - a good, visible crook lock or one of those wheel clamps could be enough to deter them...
At the end of the day, if you do enough to slow them down, or frustrate them, they will move on to other, easier targets, or steal something else. |

I think if he was planning on stealing it he wouldn't have potentially alerted you by asking about it, he'd just have stolen it.
I think he probably was genuine, wondering if you were interested in selling. It probably didn't occur to him that it might freak you out.
My guess is your camper isn't at risk. |

Yeah, if you haven't got a crook lock or wheel clamp it would be a good investment.
And if it's on a drive then a padlock on the gates too.
Anything that slows them down will encourage thieves to look for an easier target. |

Go outside your gate/fence and make sure they haven't chalked a mark. Thats how some work to alert others they work with. Its what they do when they know you have something valuable or a pedigree dog they can nick. |

When we had a lot of odd things going on at night we nipped in the police station and told them. They said they'd step up patrols in the area and made a note. It wouldn't hurt for you to do that.
I know how much your camper van means to you so the advice about wheel
clamps etc is good too.
It probably was genuine and you have nothing to worry about |

It's actually quite common and often legitimate/harmless. I k iw a lot of people who ask people if they would be interested in selling old cars left rotting on driveways. |

We have a jeep parked up on the drive and often get people knocking to ask if its for sale. I wouldnt worry to much but I would say keep keys well away from your front door.
We have had warnings of people looking through letter box and viewing what is about and lifting keys off a table by the door. |

This was my thought on the matter too. They may have just been finding out who it belonged to so they could break in for the keys."

I sold my old Rover that way. The guy came back a few weeks later to thank me because it was performing so well. I should have had a higher asking price |
