Just a heads up for anyone who thinks they are safe.
My friend has just lost her job, almost home and is facing court! She is remorseful but it's to late.
It's to near Christmas I'm gutted for her so don't even think about it. It's effects more than just yourself! Imagine losing your licence job rent money and conviction. Just not worth it at all!!! |

It's a ridiculously simple message that just gets the 'oh it'll never happen to me' treatment.
Is a pint really worth losing your, job, career, even your life or worse still, taking someone else's life?

 Think this is the only comment that has merit on this thread, if people don't know it's wrong to drink and drive by now there is no hope for them, but some still need educating about morning after residual alcohol. |

My friend forgot her mot, the police were doing a check in the morning work traffic, followed her into the car park, gave her an on the spot fine and breathalysed her at 07:55. She had no quibble with any of it and when she'd stopped crying from fright said that she is glad she doesn't drink the night before she has to drive anywhere. |

I have driven d*unk once and it was seriously the scariest thing ever, and I've never done it since. It doesn't help that I get tipsy quickly. I do berate any date that drinks knowing that he has to drive home, although they do tend to stick at two drinks and for all I know take a lot longer than me to become impaired.

My first wife and son are testament that people die and lives are changed has a direct result of DD. The driver is alive and carrying on with his life whilst a few of us get to wonder that if and if only. I think it should be part of a test to see how long units last if your body and what a safe limit is ( zero in my view) |

I have mixed feelings about the change in Scottish law. That level of impairment is not often a factor in accidents/ And while it's not a bad thing it would make sense to target things that have a far bigger impact such as harsher sentences for repeat offenders or those heavily intoxicated and stiffer sentencing for those texting and driving which is recognised to be a massive danger and an increasingly common factor in RTCs |

I agree. I think sentences for death caused by dangerous driving, whether d*unk, texting, or acting like a prat, are ridiculous, and definitely should be reviewed. I don't understand why they haven't, as I can't think of any large company that contributes to the political parties that want that sort of thing to continue. |

I'm a believer in lifetime bans for repeat offending. Anyone that gets banned twice (for anything not just drink driving) simply should not be allowed on the roads. Similarly if you get a driving ban then you should never be allowed to drive in a professional capacity. |

I agree with this. It's not clear how many accidents are caused by an alcohol level that is under the current legal limits. The Scottish government claim it's to bring it in line with many European countries but they've failed to mention that many of these countries have small fines for the lowest levels (that are currently legal but will be illegal under the new system). If the level is to be lowered then it seems rather draconian to have an automatic one year ban for them that can result in loss of job/home etc whereas people texting/speeding etc etc are let off relatively lightly.
I should point out that I agree with a ban for those over the current levels. |

I'd like a three strikes and your out rule. That's three bans for any offence and that's it you lose your lisence for good. |

No sympathy for her what so ever!, it shod be zero tolerance for drink drivers. She's lucky she only loosing her job and didn't loose her life or kill someone else, loosing her job would be insignificant to her then. |

Due to circs I now do all the driving. The only time I have a drink out is when I visit my sister and will be there for a good few hours x I'll have one glass of wine when I arrive x
The lady does deserve all she gets x but her family don't x
It really isn't worth it x no winners at all x  |

Personally I think he/she who casts the first stone... Lets not get high and mighty. It's a foolish thing she has done however I am just pointing out that the effects are catastrophic and chances are the consequences will plague her for a long time. I don't like what she has done however she is human, if slightly stupid and has ruined her career and stands to lose a lot.

peoiple don;t have sympathy for drink drivers because their idiocy and selfishness destroys lives. Only this time the only life it has destroyed is hers so at least it's a happy ending of sorts.
There is a very, very easy way to avoid losing your licence for drink driving. Millions of people do it. Just dont drink and drive - it really is that simple |

If I am enywhere other than my own house and then it's just coffe or tea for me.
My licence is my living it's clean and it's stayingthat way.
Pluse I could not live with myself if I killed or injured anyone because I was too selfish to wait a few hours for a drink at home |

As she has not been to court yet, she will not have lost her license yet... so I can only assume the loss of her job and almost losing her home is down to the shame of being in a McDonnalds drive through. |

Dont do it. Up here the limit will be 0.
So, if you haven't metabolised your alcohol overnight, you could still be shopped the next day.
Also be careful if you have steak and ale pie or if you've been using pina colada condoms
Be really careful if you've done both, you must have been pissed.
They will need to breathalyse cyclists next! |

Anyone that goes out drinking and then purposely gets in a car to drive should have their licence revoked FOREVER IMO ...i have slight sympathy for people caught the following day but NOT for those that knowingly drive when still d*unk (had a skinfull the night before and are as rough as badgers stinking of stale drink) ..the law is too lenient  |

You need to spend a day with people who have to mop up bodies of adults and children when selfish idiots that have been drink driving have caused a serious accident. I don't see her loosing her job or driving Licence as catastrophic to be honest, however giving someone life changing injuries or killing them is catastrophic in my book. How would she have said sorry to a family if she hurt herself or someone? 'Oh I'm sorry it was foolish of me'. My friends child has injuries he has to live with because a drink driver hit him. I hope they throw the book at her a person drinking and getting behind the wheel is like giving someone a loaded gun it becomes a lethal weapon |

I totally agree. I also believe that those using hand held mobile phones behibd the wheel are equally as dangerous -if not more so - at least an over the limit driver is concentrating on the road ahead!

Yes we know a man whose life has been ruined by drink driving, someone killed his 8 year old daughter and he has never recovered.

i will rarely have maybe 1 bottle beer or small glass of wine if im out for a while and drink tonic or lime and soda the rest of the night - often dont bother at all with alchohol even if not driving - think the limit is being reduced in scotland from 80 to 50 somethings - which means 1 pint might take you over the limit - personally think they two dont mix and happily not drink at all |
