I've often wondered, how many people find this part of human culture appealing? Do you see geeks as weird and awkward, or do you find sexual attraction in their intrigue and quirkiness? |

I don't mind a bit of geekiness, although the term geek has changed when I was at school it was the really skinny spotty kid, now it's kinda trendy to be geeky, my son is only 3 and is a huge marvel and DC fan so I expect he will be a geek lol. |

"Geeky women have a habit of being hit. And I've met a few closet geek girls lately. When I find that out somehow it makes them hotter."
I think it's probably seen as a more attractive image on girls rather than guys, there is something undeniably stirring about the thought of an Avril Lavigne lookalike wearing thick rimmed spectacles and a Red Dwarf t-shirt... |

"No not a fan of geeky types here

You're saying geeks can't be strong and powerful? There's more to a man having presence and magnetism than swaggering around shouting and jiggling his testicles. |

"As a kid I got called a spod. Now I embrace my geekiness. Glasses, long words, klutziness and all.
you're one attractive klutz!
So you're a sapiophile? are you also a pogonophile?"
I don't class myself as a sapiophile since the term always seems a bit condescending to me and there are many types of intelligence. As for pogonophile, I don't like a beard for the sake of it. But on the right guy it's a lovely thing. |

MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire) |
I'm very much a geek. I'm still socially awkward at times, clumsy and klutzy, and still the shy girl who never dated at school, and finds it odd now.
I'm a bit of a movie geek, adore a wide range of music, read some sci-fi, and generally have a nerdy streak a mile wide.
I'm also a complete chameleon when it comes to dress sense, wearing everything from 50s style swing dresses to very goth and metal style clothing and then throw in smart, stylish work suits and elegant dresses too! |

Smooth
I'm an unashamed geek, both in terms of looks and manner. Those who have ever met me (on here and off here) can attest to that. Lol
I think being a geek is seen as more 'cool' and 'fashionable' than it was 25-30 years ago when Screech Powers from Saved By The Bell and Steve Urkel from Family Matters were depictions of geeks. |

GEEK ALERT!!........We defiantly live in an era now in which the geek is seen as Cool. (So my little brother tells me). i doth believe every1 has a little geek within them... You can't live in a society with such amazing technology n not be a geek in some form of way. It's perfectly fine to be a gym buff and love doctor who lol!! Im a Pokemon fan but that's my personal preference lol!....I may or may not have a pikachu tattoo wearing a charmander onesie....and possibly a Lego batman tattoo.....driving the batmobile lawnmower mowing my pubic region hahha!! |

I always go weak for the hottie who is secretly a geek.
Intelligence is sexy and a man who is able to balance being suave and sexy with a passion for something geeky is okay in my books.
I cosplayed as Leela from Futurama at Comic Con once, I'm not ashamed to say I'm a little bit geeky too

You're talking about these 'fake geek' girls, who pretend to be into these kind of things just to try and be seen as something other than vacuous airheads?
And then there's the 'snob geek' the person who thinks you can only be a geek if you know which colour kryptonite appears in superman #742 or looks down on those who are just finding these thing out. Pfft a geek is evident by their love of things and not by their knowledge. We all had to start somewhere
Wait, are you calling me a "snob geek"?
No, I'm simply saying that there are those, I hate the fake geeks, wearing their goonies T-shirt because they like the font "
Is it allowed if you like skulls and it amuses you that Goonies is close to Goolies? |

"Is it allowed if you like skulls and it amuses you that Goonies is close to Goolies?"
Interesting note, there was a film released in the 80s called 'Ghoulies' that was supposedly meant to kick start a similar franchise to Gremlins, but never really took off. |

Feeding Goolies after dark turned them into evil, mean, troublemaking monsters? |

"I've been a geek for years.
It seems "cool" now to be a geek.
It bugs me that when people say "I love comic based films. I'm a geek"
No, you're not. You just like films based on comics.
Or "look at me! i'm a geek because I'm wearing stupid thick-rimmed glasses"
And nerds aren't the same as geeks.

Ah That's ok then.

Yes exactly. I have a rule that you can't wear the band T-shirt unless you can name at least 3 non hit songs by the group |

The geek hierarchy is summed up as
Geek: Understands, creates and fixes cool things e.g. Builds a LHC and provides a crowbar to everyone near by when its used.
Nerd: Understands and collects what geeks make/fix. E.g. Knows what a LHC is without googling it and knows the importance of the crowbar.
Dork: Confused by really cool stuff. E.g. Even after googling LHC they are confused.
Putting on a certain TShirt or glasses does not mean you are a geek. You might look like the stereo type but that's it.
Now where did I put my crowbar.. |

To me a geek is someone who's really into something like comics etc.

"Geeky women have a habit of being hit. And I've met a few closet geek girls lately. When I find that out somehow it makes them hotter.
I think it's probably seen as a more attractive image on girls rather than guys, there is something undeniably stirring about the thought of an Avril Lavigne lookalike wearing thick rimmed spectacles and a Red Dwarf t-shirt..." I think a geek on a girl is cute and on a guy... Not so much |

Never hear the saying Geeks get it done? Saying Geek refers to someone into something like a comic is only hovering those into a hobby not the Intellectual Geeks who make a living from their Geeky wisdom |

"I have no clue if I am a nerd or a geek. I got called a dweeb at school. Or a music dork. Or a speccy book reading twat."
All just labels to define each other/ourselves to seek common ground or alienate.
I tend not to prescribe to any of that shit as there are generally more to people than there interests. |

No, you're right. I forgot spod as well though as labels other people have chosen to put on me over the years. As descriptions go they give people some idea of what I may be like (if they have no clue I am a bit geeky/nerdy or whatever and that's an absolute turn off for them then we are simply not compatible) but my interests are by no means the be all and end all of my personality or anyone else's. |

"Geeky is hot but cute hot.
Glasses .... Hot
Braces..... Hot
Geek chic..... Hot and quirky
Glasses braces and geek chic..... Wow! "
I'll assume the girl you picture in your mind would be hot regardless of the accessories she's wearing?
This is why I find it annoying when women say they're into geeky guys - presumably they're talking about Justin Timberlake in glasses and little bow tie geeky guys as opposed to greasy vinegar smelling neck bearded Michael Moore types. |

"A geeky chick doing cosplay.... now that is my cuppa tea!
This.
As long as it's done well "
Always with the qualifiers!
Cosplay is a massive signifier of geekdom, the quality is always dependant upon income, not geekdom! |

I've seen some bad cosplay before. |
