"But why ? If it was the Mowo Awards people would go crazy ? I'm not Racist ! But hate the double standards !"
This comes around at least twice a year on here.
Black awards were created because the only things being awarded were white.
MOBO is not limited to black people winning it. It recognises the origin of the music. So the Classical Music awards recognise classical music. Or is that wrong too?

I don't think the awards themselves are racist, but I find the title "MOBO" a little insensitive. The backgrounds of the categories are not all specifically of Afro/Caribbean origin - the mixtures of music originating from Asia, and even Arabic nations are not included in the "Black" part of the title. |

We have the Brit awards we have the MTV awards there are awards for ALL type of music. I'm not sure why you have such an issue with the MOBO awards...it's not the race they are awarding it's the type of music.... |

We do - they just have other names. It's only racist when you/we make is a racial point. But that may just be the whole point of this thread for all I know.
By the way, here's another thing to get wound up about - it's Black History Month too. |

Originally they were, it's now that it's reached a bigger audience that they've included more categories. |

when I were a lad we had the singles chart and the LP chart..
now there are dozens of different genres with their own specific charts and its all good..
OP why is it just this one award you have highlighted, why not C&W or any of the others..?

Wow ok!
MOBO is a specific musical genre that is celebrated with, by, and on behalf of anyone who sings it, writes it, performs it etc etc...
Do the Classical Music Awards discriminate?
Are the BRIT awards xenophobic?
When so many awards are in honour of a specific genre I wonder why you only choose to mention the MOBO awards?
The only possible equivalent I can think of in terms of 'Music of White Origin' is white skinhead music and if they don't already have an awards show then get crackin'! |

THe point is, for the slightly hard of thinking, that every month is white history month. I cannot remember learning anything until I got to sixth form that wasn't specifically britain-centric (apart from one very fascinating module on the plains indians...which had a lot of white people in it, to be fair)... |

Just look at the majority of history programmes and you will find that the black ones tend to happen in October, if then.
This year has been a great exception with a series on the contribution of people of colour (from the colonies) to the First World War.
Ending racism is much easier when people don't make racist points where they are not needed.

Even if it was only for black people (which it's not) I don't see how it's racist. Why shouldn't minorities have representation? There are an abundance of awards for which white people are eligible, no one is being oppressed. |
