Over 4000 people dead, the people of West Africa and those helping them (our troops) are struggling to cope - many are just left dead in the streets.

But someone from Preston can make a little joke - how nice!

I do however have a morbid sense of humour and will make jokes and laugh about it,it natural to do that in a very serious situation, its how people deal with things

The male flu "man flu" is a topic of humour that men use to moan about his illness and ladies use to belittle our flu !! Both sides us it as a banter topic , I don't think there is a work place that don't hear the man flu topic on a daily bases...... the Ebola was just an extension to highlight his flu..... there was no undertones of sickness or bad taste.... we ask for accountability to police our life from the nanny state then we moan about ...... bad taste really ????

I smiled at it (and posted an Ebola joke!)...sometimes when I'm feeling poorly I over egg the pudding a bit - a headache becomes a brain tumour, forgetting my PIN is the first sign of dementia, a gripey belly is cholera, tiredness is a touch of consumption, a sniffle is Spanish 'flu...it's humour...when it's a bloke with man 'flu (incidentally, influenza has killed millions over the years and still kills now) I smile when they do the same over egging

. Not quite certain what relevance the post has to single guys . I thought the point was that a significant number of people will regard jokes about any illness as being in very poor taste - good manners are entirely different to a compassionate and caring attitude , though I would normally expect both attributes to go together.

I don't think it's that. I think it's a case of a couple of people start and then everyone else jumps on the bandwagon. I didn't think his his so called joke was that bad. He wasn't taking the piss out of people who have died I saw it as your usual man exaggerating his symptoms.

I also thought, flu had killed many many more people than ebola.

"Oh come on the guy just using a current topic as a joke. It's not offensive it's just a play on words..... Have we really lost the ability to smirk smile at dark humour without having to run jokes by folks. It was a joke that used a current theme to exaggerate a man illness. Timing and audience . Just my thoughts , Maybe he should change his audience . I just hope that no one on fab found his comments funny.

This!

Ive said all of the above. I've recently been diagnosed with diabetes and "policeman's heel" but I'm convinced I'm heading for a double below knee amputation!

Some of us have gallows humour, but you have to know your audience. Personally I wouldn't post without Kevlar undies, stab vest and hard hat!

Where do I buy Kevlar undies? "

George at Asda does a range

If you ask nicely, the ex might let you have a used pair. They should easily fit.

I agree with the point that humour helps people through certain situations and tradegies.

I also don't have a problem, necessarily, with jokes about the subject of Ebola - thought the U2 and Tombola ones wrre funny actually.

That said, I did feel that OP's initial post about 'having' Ebola (when in fact he has the Flu) was in poor taste given how serious a problem it appears to be.

It's not a matter of being selective or predjudiced against certain members but more, for me at least, the actual context of the joke.

Maybe it's just the way he phrased it.

Just be grareful it is Ebola. If you had a STI you would never be able to tell anyone because of the shame.

Some people are a bit touchy.

It's only a joke, no need to jump on your high horses with twisted knickers...

It's disgusting though. Here we are, on the very brink of the end of civilization as we know it, and people are getting annoyed because one guy on a sex site makes a joke about having a sniffle.

He'll look pretty stupid when his internal organs are hemorrhaging won't he?

It's human compassion that's putting us in the situation we now face. Had the outbreak been dealt with properly in the first place it would probably be over by now.

So we may as well laugh about it because there's bugger all else we can do....

"Showing all the symptoms. Really ill it's been gradual. I'm googling it and I'm showing all the symptoms. I'm so ill doesn't help climbing telephone poles in the pissing rain and cold weather haha "

For some it's funny,for some it's not.

I'm a bit of a hypochondriac so I'm split on this. Part of me laughed, the other parts are scared silly, like when someone coughs in my direction...although I have to laugh at my own reaction to this also.

147.2

I went to the beach and it was packed. Then I noticed a tall black guy walking among the crowds, selling his African trinkets and carved wood.

I went up to him and asked for his help. "My wife's here somewhere. If you find her I'll give you £500. Just shout loud for her while you walk."

"£500? Okay, what is her name?" he asked.

"It's Ivy", I replied. "Ivy Bowler".

Just my thoughts ,. Don't think you should ever make jokes about any illness . Sometimes best to say nothing if that is the best you can do . Hope a cure for it is found soon.

Really? Humour is helpful in dealing with illness,a laugh and a joke can make people feel a bit better"

" . I just hope that no one on fab found his comments funny.

There was a guy last night said almost the very same.... And I don't recall anyone being offended, a different night, a different reaction."

I was just trying to find the thread.....

I belive a regular formite posted a not too dissimilar thread a couple of days ago and it was jokes all the way

The double standards on here and the very selective memories sometimes get me really cheesed off

I will add I found no humour in either thread
