"Personally I consider 20 miles a reasonable distance "
i agree 20 miles to meet is a reasonable distance i wouldn't class 20 miles as local though, to me local is within a couple of miles from my home but to be honest i won't meet people who live to close to me |

"Half an hour is local, an hour at a pinch.
"
If a man is one train change away I'll consider him. Even better when it's a straight journey station to station |

"I'm in the west midlands so i would consider anywhere in the west mids to be local for me. "
I live in Derby which is the East Midlands, but then again so is Colchester according to Fab
Personally I would say anything within a 20 mile radius |

It depends where you are and transport options. If you already live fairly remotely then you're used to more traveling over long distances.
If you're by a fast road or transit system you can cover bigger distances quickly.
Really local is probably just outside quick walking distance but I think most of us meet others from a wider area than this. Neighouring towns in the provinces is reasonable. I consider 30 miles or so good as you're not perpetually in the same shop queues etc. here in central England we're fortunate with a range of fast roads and transport options. |
