Personally I consider 20 miles a reasonable distance

i agree 20 miles to meet is a reasonable distance i wouldn't class 20 miles as local though, to me local is within a couple of miles from my home but to be honest i won't meet people who live to close to me

I live in Derby which is the East Midlands, but then again so is Colchester according to Fab

Personally I would say anything within a 20 mile radius

Central

It depends where you are and transport options. If you already live fairly remotely then you're used to more traveling over long distances.

If you're by a fast road or transit system you can cover bigger distances quickly.

Really local is probably just outside quick walking distance but I think most of us meet others from a wider area than this. Neighouring towns in the provinces is reasonable. I consider 30 miles or so good as you're not perpetually in the same shop queues etc. here in central England we're fortunate with a range of fast roads and transport options.

local is within 5 miles i think - so very restrictive if thats your limit

MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire)

Within about an hours drive from me, but within aberdeenshire or the city
