I just found a huge hairy one in the bath, I tried to drown the bugger, but it looked like it was enjoying a good old swim. Can they be drowned, or do they survive most things?

What do you do with spiders?

They don't drown! I bleach them, squash them, hoover them up and scream at them!

Spiders have tiny hairs on their bodies which they can use to trap a bubble of air around their body to prevent them from drowning

Pfft, man up, they're not going to hurt you.

I once had to shoot a camel spider TWICE before it died. They're properly big buggers.

Spiders are simply trying to survive as much as you and I.

You wouldn't stamp on a dog or cut up a hamster. The principles are the same. Taking something's life no matter what it is is a travesty. But that's what humans do unfortunately.

Unless you have a Wandering Spider on the cusp of biting you just put them outside in a covered area and let them carry on surviving.

I always save them then release them back into the wild. There is a giant spider living under my fireplace called Henry - pops out every now and then gives a wave and scuttles back. Does me no harm so I leave him in peace.

Not venomous though and not a spider....it only uses 6 of its 8 legs

That was the point. But if you can calm your mind and body the next time one jumps out from wherever you disturb it make the conscious effort to place it somewhere else, like a shed outside.

I've not even touched on bio diversity and food chains. Just don't kill them!

And for the record Camel Spiders aren't actually spiders. They are arachnids but in a family called Solifugae and form their own classification. The geek facts courtesy to 2 tours in Iraq and many Afghan adventures. They're just cool animals!!

While you're correct that they aren't spiders, they do only have 8 legs. The two 'extra Kate's at the front are sensory organs.

They're still members of the arachnid family, also known as Sun spiders and wind scorpion.

Not technically venomous but they use digestive fluids to liquify their prey.

I'm starting to find these giant spider stories a little dubious now, so, unless you can put them in your Fab photos then, just like fisherman's tales, they cannot be considered to be true.

Guys, replace them for your Lynx & Sky Remote shots & ladies, errrrrrrrm, - you decide!!

I always get someone to kill any that come into the house. If you put them outside then they might come back in again.

I would not knowingly live in the house with a spider. God knows where they are leaving webs etc, as well as, more importantly, scaring the crap out of you when they come out. Its not nice.

I don't care that they kill flies, I've got a can of fly spray to deal with those.

Indeed. For spiders, time's fun when you're having flies. Is there anything that deters them in the first place though?

it was the summer of 1990 and we'd (wife and I) had just been to see Arachnophobia!!!! that night I discovered just how big a fear she had of spiders!!My arms were black and blue from the tight grip and she was hoarse from the screaming she was doing! lol

We arrived home and settled down for a cup of Horlicks before bed and a little late night TV, whe n out of the corner of my eye was this massive shadow appearing on the wall behind the settee she was sitting on!!

She saw me staring and very slowly turned to see the shadow of this immense spider as it passed in front of the floor light!

As it raised up it's front to legs she legged screaming out of the lounge expecting to be set up on by this beast!

Now I have to say the shadow was somewhat unnerving and when I gingerly checked its owner out he was definitely a little on the large side! Now I can't/wont kill it but if I was to have a peaceful night one of us had to go (spider or me, mind if I new then what I know now it should have been my wife!!)

so I picked up a pint pot and carefully approached this beast of a spider before it 8 legged it off somewhere out of reach, I managed to get the pint pot partially over the spider (it's legs were still out of the pot!) and slid a post card under so, It's always worked before so why not this time! I'd already opened a window ( nearly wrote Widow then!) put the pint pot and card through the window and shook them, removed the glass and looked through it and i could see it had gone! relief!

That is until i checked the card and the spiders legs were spanning and griping the full width of the card!!! I had a little sick into my mouth!shook the card violently! gone! YEAH!

Oh no he hadn't! He was gripping the end of my index finger with his Palps and jaws!!!!! freaked me out! now no damage done! but didn't stop thinking Next time I need a considerably bigger JUG!

One I researched which may be of interest to peeps on here:

"It sounds like a most unlikely aphrodisiac. But scientists have discovered the venom from what’s considered the world’s deadliest spider could be the secret to bolstering a man’s love life.

Toxins produced by the Brazilian Wandering Spider, or Phoneutria nigriventer, appear to combat erectile dysfunction within 20 minutes of entering the body.

Tests carried out on rats show the venom boosts performance by increasing the release of nitric oxide, a chemical that dilates blood vessels and improves blood flow. This is similar to how existing impotence drugs work".

The Brazilian Wandering Spider is responsible for killing more people than any other arachnid. Victims usually die within an hour of being bitten.

It is also known as the banana spider because of its habit of stowing away in shipments of the fruit.

In 2008, a supermarket in Chatham, Kent, was forced to close after an assistant spotted one of the spiders under a box of bananas as she stacked them.

One in ten men in the UK suffers erectile dysfunction at some point in their lives

So little blue or yellow pill or spidey?

YOUR CHOICE!
