Compared to the impact this young woman has had and will have on society and the world as a whole, the cost is minimal. I would rather pay for her than someone who doesn't contribute anything to society. |

"What did she win the nobel peace prize for?"
For fighting for the right of girls to have an education.........a struggle she nearly paid for with her life. She carries on that fight with gusto despite what she has been through. |

To be honest I cant really warm to her, and I think thats because she sounds like a politician instead of a child/young woman.
But for what she has been through, and the way she has chosen to turn events around and raise awareness, I agree it is very well deserved. |

She has wisdom and conviction beyond her years and I can understand your stance, however unlike most politicians she is genuine. |

So wouldn't the nobel womens rights to education prize be more fitting? I dont see what she has done for world peace?
She is a very intelligent young lady, no denying it and as you say, very strong willed after all she has been through.

There isn't such a category for the Nobel Awards, the others being Chemistry, Physics, Physiology or Medicine.

A young girl gets shot at close range & miraculously survives, firstly due to incredibly good luck, & then, due to a humane nation........ but not if Bradford & Leeds were a nation, in your opinion!

The dictionary defines political asylum as this : political asylum is the right to live in a foreign country, and is given by the government of that country to people who have to leave their own country because they are in danger of persecution
I think her case is a pretty good example |

Asylum is an important concept apparently lost on you.
Incredible hostility, hatred and bile spouted about a young woman who exhibits more maturity, courage and dignity than many double her age.

I kind of agree. I feel like she has many strings attached and is being played for the media like a puppet.
That said I'm not taking anything away from what is a positive outcome, just feel like her media reports and inter_iews seem a little staged. |

Wow.....just wow
I think we have a perfect example of Fabicide right here.
This young lady is an inspiration and if she chooses to live in the UK I for one am proud & happy for her to stay. Then again I wouldn't ever send someone back to a country where they would be almost guaranteed to be killed. Any right minded person would be the same and this is nothing to do with political correctness it's about human compassion.

It's good that you have an opinion and the freedom to share it, that reflects very well on our democracy.
It's good that you're opinion is (so far at least) in the minority on this thread, that reflects very well on our values and aspirations as a society.
I understand your opinion but ask you two simple questions. Did you agree with the original decision to bring her to the UK for treatment? Having had that treatment, would you feel any regret if on return to her homeland she was killed.

This young woman is 17, she gives speeches and inter_iews un front of a highly critical media in her second language......of course they are going to seem staged......because they are, as a criticism that's pretty weak. |

1) I am very rarely proud of our government, but in Malala's case I am.
2) Not only did the UK government save the life of this remarkable young woman, who knows how many lives we will save in the future because of her courage and determination to fight for rights for women.
3) Malala was writing for the BBC when she was shot, the BBC is pretty much the state media here. Personally we have a duty of care to her in my opinion
4) If you think she should "be put on the next plane out of whatever airport" then I think that shows narrow mindedness, ignorance and a whole lot of UKIP/BNP mentality. |

I can't think of a better winner but I think long term the significance will be she is a joint winner with a Hindu lad ! They have already asked Thier presidents of India and Pakistan to go with them to collect the prize ! As these countries both have nuclear missiles and have been to War three times , I think the Peace Part to this could be very Relevent ! ps the Leeds / Bradford post is not Worthy of Comment |

What an amazing statement "cost to the taxpayer"!
If a child shot by an extremist group for calling for the education of females does not deserve medical treatment on the grounds of cost, what of the people injured in car crashes when they were driving stupidly, guys injured fighting whilst d*unk, those injured playing sport and bungy jumping? Surely they should be left where they fell if tax cost is a measure of justification? |

Of course, aside from speaking in her second language, also her speech cant have been helped by having the left side of her face shot at point blank range as a 14 or 15 y/o on a bus on her way to school - & the subsequent multi-face reconstruction operations, eh! |

As much as I think she's a very brave young lady, there is a dubious element to her "success". Her family own and run a very profitable chain of schools in the region that she was shot whilst campaigning for females to get educated. The Peace Prize is not always what people think it is though - Hitler was actually nominated for the prize by several countries in 1939. |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
"some of you are miss reading my original comment
at no point did l say it was wrong to shoot her, nore did l say it was wrong to bring her here for treatment or that she is not a brave little lady that deserves her Nobel prise.
my only question was why is she and her family still here when in there own words they stated 'once she recovers they were going home'. As for her future safety surely thats a matter for her own security forces
Her father now has a job based in Birmingham ....
Ziauddin Yousafzai (b. 1969) is a Pakistani diplomat and the father ofMalala Yousafzai , a young woman who protested against the Taliban for the education rights of children, especially for Pakistani girls. He is currently theUnited Nations Special Advisor on Global Education[1] [2] [3] [4] and also the educational attaché of Pakistan in its consulate in Birmingham ,
"
So just like any British or other nationality adviser working in a consulate then.

"As much as I think she's a very brave young lady, there is a dubious element to her "success". Her family own and run a very profitable chain of schools in the region that she was shot whilst campaigning for females to get educated."
I really don't understand what you meanby 'dubious element'? |

"We shown our Compassion when we first let her and he family come here, now we need to show it again and book her a ticket.
Or is it that old chestnut of political asylum once again
Wow.....just wow
I think we have a perfect example of Fabicide right here.
"
I don't. These forums regularly highlight intolerance and bigotry. Granted not usually as blatant as that but I suspect that sadly many in society and some on the forums will share the sentiment |

So you aren't going to clarify it? |

" As for her future safety surely thats a matter for her own security forces
..... because they did a magnificent job of that before... they should get to do that again....
oh, and the Taliban have stated that if she goes back... they will attempt to kill her again!
I read the Taliban said they were wrong to shoot her in the first place
If she knew she was a target of the Taliban for her _iews then she was brave if she didn't , was she brave I think this is much over stated
She and her family live in Birmingham Her father works or worked for the Pakistani high commission there
I also can not warm to her at all
The Mail had a comment that it maybe time to have a rest from her , I couldn't agree more
Before we ge get the usual crap about the Daily Mail
The article was in the Birmingham Evening Mail , hardly a hot bed for the right
I think it's time to have a rest from the same celeb stories. I can't control them appearing in the press but I just don't read them."
Couldn't agree more Current most read news story on the BBC is about eastenders. And people bemoan her relatively low media profile. |

I was in WH Smiths last Christmas and noticed her book on the display I was stood next to. Next thing I noticed was a group of lads that were making jokes about her name sounding like "curry" and pissing themselves at their comments.
As with certain posts on this thread, it's just another highlight of the real problems we have in society; small mindedness, bigotry and lack of tolerance and respect for other people! |

"What did she win the nobel peace prize for?
For fighting for the right of girls to have an education.........a struggle she nearly paid for with her life. She carries on that fight with gusto despite what she has been through.
So wouldn't the nobel womens rights to education prize be more fitting? I dont see what she has done for world peace?
She is a very intelligent young lady, no denying it and as you say, very strong willed after all she has been through.

"1) I am very rarely proud of our government, but in Malala's case I am.
Don't blame UKIP, its just someone elses opinion. |

So basically it's all a set up? Her father arranged for his own daughter to be shot at point blank range and also got the Taliban to say they did it then say it was a mistake. Wow! |

I didn't blame UKIP I said that it sounded like UKIP mentality, but I'm not surprised about who made that comment, nor the rolling eyes!! |

I'm not so daft as to believe everything the media tell me and although I have no direct experience of Swaat or Pakistan I do have experience of rural India and the corruption that exists. I do however think that your claim that Malala is a nutcase is ridiculous. |

I do agree with some of what you say actually but she does say she wants ALL children to have access to education and I think it's telling that Satyarthi was joint winner. |
