the good lands, the bad lands, the any where you may want me lands

its in the title, but what will we be doing to increase the awareness of mental health distress around the world?

There was an excellent piece on Farming Today on Radio 4 this morning about a charity in Norfolk who have a rapid response team for farmers experiencing mental health distress in Norfolk, non of this 18 week treatment response, they respond immediately, a lesson that the NHS could learn from.

I myself today will be supporting as an advocate my friend who has a history of mental health distress; like I have continually for 15 years, including the recovery from 2 suicide attempts.

I will be honest I suffered a mental illness last year....and whilst I know most of the trigger events now, I still have to focus when I am getting at low points. These are the times I reach out to others and say I need help. Luckily since last year this has happened twice but it is something I am mindful off

Yes! recognising the triggers is a great help, so much as having people that you can reach out to for support and help when you need it

I agree with you. Comes across as awful. Hopefully its not meant the way I read it either. Anyone who has been affected by suicide would also not appreciate such a comment either

I find this kind of quip highly offensive, suicide is a horrific thing for a family to have to go through.

I for one will be doing all I can to help raise awareness or help people, if it helps save one family from going through what ours has been through in the last 12 months.

This kind of awareness and help came too late for my Brother.

Mental Health is very misunderstood, and like others said earlier in the week, it is very misunderstood.

As I said on the thread about the lady who was the twitter troll to the McCanns, Brenda Leyland, she is a person, has a name! Suicide is not selfish or the easy get out clause. It's not as if anyone gets to that point over a short period of time, it is generally over a period of feeling low and seeing no way out.

Hopefully days like today will help to highlight the ongoing issues about mental health and help people to realise both they and their loved ones are not alone.

I'm not sure I have worded all that very well, but I wish people would try to understand mental health more.

Good luck and health to all.

If you get no joy from your GP with regards to mental health issues, see another. Sadly some GPs do not have a clue.

this..

we all know someone suffering from this illness, whether they are open about it or not that will be a given..

it can affect every 'type of person' and across all strata's of our society..

just being there for someone will help..

It took me years to admit to struggling with my mental health because of the stigma and feeling that it was because I was weak. It took seeing 3 GP's before I really strated to get anywhere and even then it took time for anything to really start to make a difference. Now I'm open and honest about it, yes I suffer depression and quite severely at times but it's not the whole of me and I'm fighting it all the time.
