Does anyone have any experience or things to consider apart from the obvious?
I can't give a long term home to a dog but can possibly do short to medium term.
I think its something to offer as some local kennels have dogs that cannot cope with a none domestic life or have been in situations that they would benefit from a more one to one or almost 24 hr company approach.
Any constructive advice would be appreciated.

I dont know the foster site - but my breeder gave two dogs to epilepsy detection. Their first year is spent in a family home where they are socialised.
The first year is the hardest granted - many sleepless nights, as well as toilet training but after the year dogs are then taken for the necessary training.
I would think it's the same for guide dogs? |

yep, maybe google a particular breed you find interesting. I have springers and there are dedicated homes form them. Grossly miss understood dog and families often cant cope with their energy. As much as the dog may well have a decent temperament, they are re-homed due to no fault of their own.
Waffled a little - but I have heard it's the same for great danes.
I would say there are websites for people who are in financial difficulty, or have had injury where they cant cope - I would be cautious that it isn't a rehoming organisation and is a foster site. You could well be left with the dog or it would be changing hands constantly, which isn't good. |

"Try pets in crisis. Look on the dvconnect website.
That's an Australian website "
Damn!
I know there is a programme in the UK which fosters pets for those who have had to leave a home due to domestic violence, often the pets are on the receiving end of the violence too. I foolishly did a quick Google and posted the result. |

Or maybe an older dog? They would love to have a nice comfy home for their twilight era. You would have to be pretty strong willed though, but it would be an amazing thing to do xx |

My kennels do not have a good word to say about Manchester dogs home. I realise this is going to be a little contentious but they neither treat the animals with care or are concerned about who they go to.
The words out of his mouth were 'I would never send a dog to that home', 'it's a shame they suffered both there and in death, but I would not wish that place on any animal'.
That's why I said to OP be cautious of any dogs home that you are not left with the dog for life. There are quite a few shelters that breed dogs for profits, any they cant sell go in their home and are moved on that way. |
