Well some people in Argentina are getting upset over a number plate used in the filming of Top Gear,
oh dear, how sad, never mind.
Doesn't the fact that given we have the best armed forces in the world,
a resilience and determination known only by true British people, and a sense of humour that is truly great,
prove, we are a great nation?
Well done Top Gear, keep 'em coming.

I`m always nipping down to the all-night petrol station for sweet snacks and king-sized Rizlas!
The BBC should consign the Top Gear team to the scrapheap. |

I love Top Gear and normally love their humour. I have to admit though I thought this time they went a step too far, being as they were in Argentina - you don't rub their faces in the fact they lost. It was disrespectful. They lost over 600 casualties too, yes I know they invaded but still people lost lives. Would we laugh if a TV Crew came here with a number plate for a war or disaster where we lost people? Probably not.
Now I probably sound far too serious for a Friday night (you can tell I've been stuck in the house all week). I think it was an intended joke that they didn't think through.
Still Clarkson will get more publicity for all the furore than if there had been no issue. |

He's already had his final warning from the BBC.
But it's all publicity at the end of the day. |

And what difference will it make? Last warning so at best they sack him? Straight on to sky or ITV for even more money. The programme is shite anyway and has virtually nothing to do with cars as it once did. |

What is the argies problem anyway ? How can they say they OWN the Falklands when it has been part of the Empire since before Argentina was even a country . If that is the case then I demand Brittany in northern France back so we can create a Buffer/Kill zone between us and immigrants . And before you all scream out and hurl abuse saying I am sick.... TOUGH feck em.

They'd lose a ton of viewers if he got the sack.
Yeah the format just seems to be JC as the old man, JM as the middle aged man, and RH as the child.
It's like a sitcom with nice cars. |

A car is given its number plate by the dvla, the bbc or top gear would have to be thinking on the same lines as the Argentinians and so I'm finding it hard to understand to be honest |

I for one watch it, Yeah it has less to do with cars than it used to do. But it is a very very popular program world wide. I would not be surprised if it actually make more than it costs. |

There were three number plates, obviously.
The other two had the number of dead for each respective side.
So that one was a little bid of a bad taste I think. |

I'm on the fence with this, given their past incidents.
I mean H982 FKL is a coincidence however the cars were bought for them by the production side of things...
Interesting to see how it pans out. |

Its all free publicity for the show so a mistake or clever marketing I doubt we will ever know the truth. |

Unfortunately we don't any longer have the best arm forces in the world not even close before you jump on some patriotic high horse I'm an exsquaddie who loved being in the army for 6 years but we are now billions of pounds under budgeted under staffed plus we are spread to thin on the ground |

It was proved though a da check that the number plate was assigned to that car back in 1991. Proving it was the argies up to their normal tricks of making news out of nothing. But let's not let facts stand in the way of a tabloid story. |

I think that its highly unlikely the coincidence of the Porsche's plate was lost on the production office. So was probably chosen for the subtle dig, but I imagine they expected it wouldn't raise it's head til transmission.
I find it more difficult to believe that they were tasked with finding a couple of ageing sports cars for sale, still on the road, with specific number plates to represent the number of dead. If that is indeed the case then the odds of coincidence just go through the roof and it was obviously set up. |

Well maybe we have cut the defence spending and we are "thin on the ground."
However, we STILL have the best forces in the world because they are manned by the best officers, NCO's and ordinary troops. We can still hold our own because of our British resilience, ingenuity and downright determination when it comes to conflict.
That is not being on a "Patriotic High Horse" simple fact.
Just take comfort in the fact that we are allowed to _xpress our views on forums like this in a free society is because the attributes described above have been practised in the past. Something that countries such as Argentina must envy. |

My opinion it was set up
My opinion no one wins a war , both sides always lose just one side loses more.
Gloating that a country's armed forces killed more humans than another is repulsive |

No one's gloating. It's just a fact that right overcame wrong and achieved by good people. |

its all about perceptions, common sense and a bit of decency..
for those family members who lost their sons, brothers and husbands it probably was offensive..
certainly crass or insensitive on the people who ignored the plate if they did so ..
the right and wrong after 32 years is another issue and possibly irrelevant when personal grief is perceived to being mocked at by a show about cars.. |

Argentinian politics and economy are in big difficulties. They have a history of distracting their population at such times by attacking common enemies.
The BBC team said most of the objectors were in their 20s so how were they fighting 32 years ago? |

Not hard to understand, BBC drama team turned up in Argentina with a numberplate that would mean nothing to Spanish speaking people, paid a bunch of extras for a days work and lobbed rocks at the car. Then had to explain what was controversial in the media so we can be shocked at the antics of the 3 characters.
Top Gear is a comedy which has generated a world wide market by pretending to be controversial.
If you were to take the program seriously then they have proved that the fastest car in the world is the Range Rover, so fast even with the back door open and a camera man leaning out they can stay in front of every other super car ever made |

agree about their domestic issue's, not aware of the specific ages of the objectors my point didn't mention that those who may find it offensive did take part in the conflict but that family etc of those who died could do.. |
