Is it the only license that we buy that never, ever expires?

If it did, would you renew yours?

Why does anyone EVER feel the need to get married?..

I believe caring about just "one" person puts too much pressure on a relationship unnecessarily when there are so many amazing people in the world.

And, in fact, because of our hyper-connectivity and "endless selection" and ease of flirting/dating and testing the fucking waters, it's the constant search for "the one" and then continually feeling like there's likely an opportunity to upgrade and find an even better "the one" that results in divorces and more.

WHO THE HELL WOULD WANT THAT?

Now seriously i'm not saying that I subscribe to a polyamorous model, my parents met as kids and have been married since they were legally old enough to, read that as 20+ years, my dad gets LOADS of attention and he has never had his head turned away from my mum.

But I'm surrounded by those who are in marriages where each (or at least one partner) ... or they are both bored and growing stale... or they've been through their first divorce already ...

To be transparent for a sec, not only am I NOT married, but I don't believe in the concept from any angle, despite my upbringing.

The "unity" of it. The "permanent" notion of it. The necessity of it. The joy or benefits of it?

Me and my Dad are completely different like that. In fact I'd be fucked just for being on this site haha!

I subscribe to honest (often brutally and shockingly honest) levels of communication and loyalty ... but that has nothing to do with a wedding chapel, a priest, a commercialized and prestige £20,000+ fucking wedding day or a piece of fucking paper.

Exactly I kind of think can I be bothered spending all that money on one day?! Think he just wants to make me his mrs

And as for what Scott said to you, I was separated from my ex for 8 years before we divorced and I lived with Paul 5 of those years

Halesowen

Soloman, reputed to be the wisest man in the known universe, had 700 wives and 300 concubines according to the bible.

It was probably because when coming home after a tough day adjudicating, there was a good chance of finding one of them who was pleased to see him

That's crap. I tried divorcing mine straight away but he contested it and I couldn't afford all the hassle so left it for the 5 years to have the easy divorce but again he wouldn't agree and I could afford to do it alone ... Until he met this woman and wanted to marry her then we had a quickly divorce think it was about 2 months before their wedding when we finally got divorced!

Paul proposed when we had been together 5 yrs even though I was still married as he was sick of waiting and said at least if I would promise to be

His

You may qualify to have the fee set aside - pop into your friendly county court and pick up a leaflet.

Technically a license is permission to marry and it is the certificate, eg. contract, that doesn't expire. I don't think we do licenses any more though in some countries you have to do both.

I wouldnt renew my vows for my first marriage, that ended in divorce after many years of hell and anyway its impossible to re marry him now

However my 2nd marriage is wonderful, i met him on a swinging site and lived with him for years before we got married, i had always said i would never re marry but it was one of the best things i have ever done and we are very happily married and have a brilliant life togather so yes i would renew my vows
