I don't think "old-fashioned" manners or values have disappeared at all. A certain Ancient Greek philosopher complained about the deteriorating standards of the younger generation. It seems to be a common theme that younger folk are tarred with this generalisation. There has always been a proportion of the populace which is selfish and a proportion which is considerate.

"What would you like to see making a comeback?
I'm going to start with
respect for your elders."
Yup this
I never saw so many kids answering back to parents and generally being shits towards elders until I went to school here in England. Massive culture shock. |

A real respect for the value of truth."
unfortunately as we have learned to our cost there was very little honesty in terms of old fashioned values.
The fact that I can no longer watch top of the pops, its a knockout, jim'll fix it etc. or remember the catholic school i attended without the criminal conviction of the monks that worked there means that we tend to look at the past through rose tinted glasses. In all honesty today we can find out the truth in a million more ways than we ever could and thankfully the hypocrites the spew traditional values can be revealed to be those that have most to hide from modern methods of discovering the truth. |

"Chivalry
I know girls complain about this... But ...explain what you girls expect by it"
I like to feel like I'm being watched out for, doors on cars and buildings opened, an arm offered for me to link as its a help with my heels on uneven pavements, a coat loan if I need it...
Those kind of gestures. |

"Respect is something to be earned "
I take the view that those of an older generation to me have earned my respect through their life experiences until or unless they have given me a reason to lose that respect. But I guess differing views make the world go around. |

"Families sitting down to meals together, not eating off a tray in their room or while watching telly. "

with my mum and dad.
With my children we always sat at the table together its far better |

Some very good points and without doubt the past is not all good. But is it wrong to want the best of the past and merge it with the best of the future? |

That adults didn't swear in front of children and think that is normal conversation ! It isn't. My Dad didn't even let me say knackered as a child. It's something I really dislike when I hear it.
And saying "pardon" instead of "what " at high volume. My Grandad was always pulling me up on it , I'm glad he did though as it does sound far nicer.
