I'm 100% against anyone harming kids in any way, but don't like the idea of tv shows that may inflame idiots out on the streets. We've recently had that really sad incident where the disabled guy who was photographing his garden, after vandalism, was attacked and killed by local yobs, and even the police seemed to let them loose. The poor man was burned to death, due to inflamed ignorance and the mob mentality.
And there are Paediatricians attached, because the dumb ignorance that is rife out there doesn't understand what they hear and learn about others.

We just need to staff and equip our police force and courts correctly and vigilantes imo are never right.
I detest adults who mistreat children, just the stuff you sometimes see them do in public, things said hatefully etc - you see it often - and anything worse is definitely something that needs to be addressed with the full force of the law. |

I don't agree with the vigilante approach either. It is fuelled on emotion and passion and it isn't always appropriate.
it also gives licence for those who enjoy violence to become involved and use it as a smokescreen.
It is never the right way. |

Actually nothing to do with the tv show, but, some poor dab in a town near us had bricks through his window and all sorts, words painted on his house etc and it was all mistaken identity and rumour |

"Stinson hunter does it in Birmingham "
He covers most of the Midlands, from Coventry I believe, I've seen some of the 'stings' he sets up. Quite disturbing how widespread it is. |

Im sure i saw something similar about a group that operates in Russia, except they beat the guys up after they find them then let everyone in the local community know exactly who these pedo's are. |

"Im sure i saw something similar about a group that operates in Russia ... who these pedo's are. " .
they also do that with gays and bis, announcing them as paedos. Such ignorance and vigilante action should get stiffer penalties. |

Damn! That's trivialising the issue massively for entertainment purposes only besides that's not gonna catch the real offenders though, the real offenders live in amongst normal people, have normal jobs, and have plenty of money to cover their ass. |

I agree with the first part of your statement but can't agree with the rest. All offenders are real regardless of where they live and their financial status. |

Many moons ago me & the ex mrs had a long weekend in Amsterdam.
The hotel we were staying was shown on TV three nights before we went: as part of a Panorama documentary into a paedophile ring that was running from there |

"There is a show on this Wednesday at 10pm on channel 4 that looks interesting....I won't be in the country so could someone tape it for me? lol"
Is this the American guy who goes around setting people up and then confronting them in car parks?
Stuff like this is dangerous, to be honest. Loads of people have that "string them up, hang them, burn the bastards" mentality. You take that, show people shows like this, and a percentage will think they can go out and do this themselves. Eventually, either something gets ugly and there is a fight that breaks out into a murder/manslaughter, or a lynching. Worse than that, a group of vigilantes could end up getting the wrong person and doing them in.
If people want to try and control sexual assaults, of all kinds and not just on kids, get the damn Tories out and get in a government that won't strip the police forces budget to bare minimum (sorry for getting a little political there) |

Yeah. It got ripped off the air because the last guy they were trying to nail got suspicious and stopped talking. The to catch a Predator team went to the guys house and tried to get him to let them in, so he shot himself rather than be put on TV and then arrested |

Yeah, and the mentality of "just move the problem teacher to an older set of boys, so they can fight him off" probably distills an idea that a brushing under the carpet attitude is perfectly fine. That topped with the fact that most abusers have been abused in the past. Recipe for disaster |

'Taint just kids. The elderly and adults with cognitive issues get it too. Anyone who abuses an "innocent" should be locked away. Those with issues who dont see it as wrong need locking away but help also, to see how wrong hurting anyone who cannot say no or fight back, is wrong. Those who hide what they do....they are the scum who need vivisection and such like done to them. They hide it so they must know its not right |

I saw half a show on channel four years ago, maybe about sixteen or seventeen years ago, following three sex offenders post-release. One was a rapist, who quite frankly was an arsehole who didn't care and was completely habitual, the second was an indecent exposure who seemed to be trying but without help and ended up being taken back into care to try and stop him because he was being found wanking and crying in an alley, and the third was a paedophile.
So this guy was a heavily abused child, so it is clear how he became an abuser himself. He genuinely hated himself, and it was kind of hard not to feel sorry for him. A teacher at a nursery made an appointment with him to offer help. It seems so weird someone like that offering to help someone who has abused kids. He was saying that he doesn't deserve help and he isn't good enough for it. He was breaking down in tears because he just couldn't think of anything worth saving about himself. He had a self loathing that went as far as never looking at himself. His parole officer was trying to get him to enter something similar to witness protection, where they take him away and relocate him somewhere completely away from where he was living, so his "friends" in the ring couldn't contact him. His parole officer said "all it takes is a note through your door from one of your mates, and you're back in". After resisting for a while, he finally decided to be relocated somewhere else, with help to make sure he reformed and got therapy for his past abuse.
What do we do with offenders? I don't know. Do we lock them up forever? Do we chemically castrate them? I guess blanket punishment that is harsh would first mean that things get driven further into secrecy, and also that prisons would be fuller. How do we make sure a reforming offender keeps taking their medication? I do however think that counselling and reforming is a good option to use. Maybe the most extreme cases, where they are clearly unrehabiliatable, might be best in a mental hospital. |
