I can't believe anyone who has ever traveled on the London underground would ask that question

Depends what you're carrying. There's the riverbuses too and the Emirates Airline. Plus the bikes. And aren't there those things pulled by men somewhere in London now? I could be wrong though

Uber don't necessarily have good coverage. They give a quote at the start of the journey which often has no resemblance to the actual fare. They also use price surging which means that at busy times make them very expensive. In some cases double that of London taxis. There is no proper complaints procedure, any query will have you connected back to the driver that you are complaining about in the first place.

I would never under any circumstances use Uber.

Surely not fancying black cabs is just a preference?

I don't care much for it. I think the black cab drivers of London have made a strong case for their profession keeping as it is.

Yep - although uninspiring,I always 'negotiate' the underground when I'm down though I do find the overall pace a bit tiring - fine for a few days but always love coming back up North

This ^^^^

May I ask why you don't fancy "black" cabs.

They are cheaper than uber and Addison Lee , and they are all CRB checked. A convicted rapist has managed to get a job with uber.

Fabio seems to me like the sort of timewaster who'd ask a black cab to come pick him up, but then go off with an Uber cab that gave him a better offer. Shame he can't be named and shamed somewhere

If you were a woman late at night wanting to get home.....wouldn't you rather someone crb checked and with no criminal record !!!!!

When someone important gets attacked or murdered......then it will be back to proper checked out people driving people around

This is not a dig but a personal observation of many people in general. Many like Fabio like their hi tech toys (absolutely nothing wrong in that) and like to play with their fancy apps. One of these being Uber. They like to see where the little car is and watch it come towards them on the map. The problem is when things go wrong. The driver goes the wrong way, the passenger is overcharged. The driver gets over familiar with a female passenger. The list is endless and there is no way of effectively complaining.

There are plenty of reputable companies out there with booking apps that don't avoid paying corporation tax in this country in the way Uber does

Yes I've used them in Ireland and in Germany.

Very efficient, fast, convenient service.

Drivers have always been very friendly.

Did you get a voucher? You know you get one from an exhausting user that u can use towards your first trip and they get one too?

Lemme know if you want one!

The thing is in London you have three choices.

Black cabs , Mini cabs or uber.

Black cabs are fully liscenced and they drive a specific cab designed for london which is fully wheelchair accessible.the cab has to go in for an overhaul once a year to make sure it's roadworthy and it has to have two MOT's a year But the main selling point is the driver. They have to undertake the knowledge which is a minimum thirty months. They are all CRB checked every three years and there is an easy complaints procedure.

Mini cabs are licensed to a degree, but the vehicle tests are nowhere near as stringent. The driver needs no knowledge of london at all and only needs a sat nav. No training is given whatsoever.

An uber driver is totally unregulated and you have no idea what vehicle will be sent to pick you up. They use an illegal metering system that is being challenged in the high court and they are quite likely to be banned as they have been in other major European cities.

And Black cabs have been voted the best cab service in the world for four years running scoring double the amount of voted from its nearest rival New York.

Of the 30 countries surveyed, London topped the list across five of the seven categories, including cleanliness, knowledge of the area and quality of driving.

While the capital’s cabs were also voted top for friendliness, it was this category that was deemed the least important.
