People believe in what they want!. Years ago in upper school a few of us dabbled, with a board found in a friends home. Her mum was very much into this sort of thing. Never again!!! Strange things happened in her house anyway and within a year two of the other girls there were killed. Might just be coincidence I guess but I wouldn't ever do one again. Listen to the advice you were given I say. |

It's not something that I have ever been interested in. I tend to think that anything like that is a load of rubbish. Having said that, my Dad did it once and it's one of only 2 times I've ever heard him admit to being scared by something. |

when i was a young teen, yes with a few friends, amazingly, according to the board, i was going to die aged 18 in a motorcycle accident, it never happened even though i was a biker.
but the strange thing is, all of us (about 5 of us) were all going to die young of various things, all of us are still around to tell the tale and still in touch with each other.
so i think its a load of bull |

Fascinate me, don't think I'd ever dabble though. My lad came home with one he found, when he was about fifteen. He'd found it whilst messing about with his mates, on a building site. It had obviously been buried, the site was getting excavated. It was battered but beautiful. I told him to put it back.  |

A radio like device which plays the frequency band over in a loop, which can be played backwards. With controllable speed
The idea is any "spirit" "entity" or whatever you wish to call them can pick up on the frequencies and communicate through them.
The idea of looping it backwards is radio can not come through causing interference.

A friend of mine sat in the room while her friends did it. Over the next year 2 of the 4 people died. That's freaky enough for me. Not even taking into consideration one of them died the next day in a car crash. |

I goggled it and there was something to say that they were banned here due to the witchcraft act...however ouija boards were big in the Victorian era right through until the 1950's. I know that some stores in the US have stopped stocking them...I remember seeing one in a toy shop over there |

I have tried it at a place that really they shouldn't never needed to be touched a priest had to be called and bless the room as weird shit happened in that room luckily I was in another room and nothing happened in there |

My mother tried one when she was younger, she wouldn't tell me what happened but made me promise never to try it.

Oujia boards are used with the belief that there are contactable "spirits" or ghosts, and that these unfortunates actually want to be contacted. Tarot cards are used on the basis that the future is foreseeable, and predetermined. I don't believe in either of these scenarios. |

No, they are not banned in the UK. They were in the 17th century. The closest call to banning the use of them, as opposed to the sale of them, would come under the heading of fraud.
Personally, and call me mad if you will, I would stay well clear. Radio Metro listeners from the 80's may recall a certain phone in. My father had a dreadful story to tell as did my religious teacher. Even if you are not a believer in that sort of thing, why even expose yourself to possible risk? Curiousity killed the cat. |

Just out of curiosity - where do believers in ouija boards believe these "spirits" they're talking to actually are? In heaven, or limbo, or just floating around aimlessly? Are the "spirits" always malevolent or are they sometimes benign? |

Now it is my understanding and don't laugh at me are that some spirits are not aware they are dead and often stuck at the time they were living so did not cross over as such...there are spirits that have suffered an untimely death whether by murder etc..of course you get demonic sprits who are not spirits at all but a negative energy that is sometimes attached to people and items...girls who are going through puberty are often noted to attract demonic spirits and negative spirits |

I have never used one and wouldnt either. I have been on paranormal evenings but I wouldnt actually use a board.
I have an active imagination and even if it is a load of bull, id keep thinking about it all the time. |

My mum tells a story of when she and my dad gor together in the early sixties, they were at afriends house and agroup of them started messing about with one. My dad thought it was a load of bollocks and left them to it to go to the loo. As he cam back downstairs they were all huddled round this thing by candlelight. My dad took it upon himself to pick up the household cat and throw it so it landed in the middle of the table.. apparently he was nearly lynched |

Did I mention I was brought up in a house that was over 400 years old a former coaching inn that allegedly had numerous so called Turpin esk highwaymen and a graveyard 200 meters away that we lived a mile away from the nearest village and that everything local was allegedly haunted

There are millions of people who believe the same as the non believers....there are people who have experienced stuff they cannot explain some have experienced some quite disturbing stuff...who am I to judge them or disbelieve what they say...There are many unexplainable things that happen in this world and just because you don't have hard evidence yourself does not mean it does not happen.... |

I totally agree with you. I'm an aethiest, I don't believe in any form of afterlife, I like and need evidence.
Which is why what I saw when I used one out freaked me so much, it had no rational or logical explanation. It is unexplainable.
I'm not convinced by some of the posts about people dying after dabbling, this isn't final destination, people die all the time. I'd also never tell anyone not to try using one. Do it and see what happens |

To my understanding the Ouija Board was simply a board game with letters of the alphabet and the words 'yes' and 'no' on it. It was sold with a wooden 'planchette' which people would touch to move to each letter.
Mostly it works because people wish it to and, although many may believe they are not, people tend to be responsible for the outcome.
The power of suggestion is mighty powerful indeed. |

I am not putting science down as a discipline. (Though it can be tricky. I gather there is no formula yet that will predict whether an aeroplane will fly). I am just pointing out that it does not and cannot address feelings and experiences that cannot be reliably repeated. I would expect those involved in science or motivated by it to agree with that sentiment. It is not a criticism or failing of science. It is a necessary limitation. |

Aeroplane flying is GCSE level stuff if needs be. Bernoulli came up with equations for pressure differentials on different surfaces over which a fluid (eg air) flows. (Centuries ago). It is this pressure differential that creates the lift enabling aircraft to fly. If a plane goes too slowly then the flow of air is insufficient to create enough lift force and the plane stalls.

my way of thinking is that some things are true and people can make them come true(unwittingly)..a psychologist might say that after playing with such devices that the people have then gained subconscious fears that may have led to the accidents.
In all honesty I think theres a small percentage of things that can happen..that may be impossible for others to believe, and thats based on the quantum mechanical view thats been rapidly changing our perceptions of time,matter,space and reality itself. |

Honestly ? Do you know how many people have ruined their iphone by putting it in a microwave to charge ?
Wild claims are rife it would be dishonest not to articulate a reasoned counter position .
Another example a person who has 60 percent body fat asked how to reduce the belly ? One person believes crunches , allowing this inaccurate statement to go un challenged would not only perpetuate a silly myth but could lead to physical harm x
I'm guessing most here would want to help a child who's beliefs lead them to reject a blood transfusion

You have got the art of mocking people down to a fine art haven't you, just because people don't believe doesn't give you the right to ram down their throat why they shouldn't believe the same goes with the believers to the non believers..
It happens a lot on here, someone only yesterday told another they were talking a fucking load of bollocks for their views on something.
Maybe the key is for everyone is to let others have their say without trying to ridicule other peoples posts.

I did however question the way people are getting their point across....and attacking people / ridiculing or being aggressive is not going to strengthen any reasoning or debating. |

When I was about 15 a group of us thought it would be a good idea to try it 5 of us in my mates cottage which was really old while they were having a new house built in the same grounds the glass did move but we all blamed each other but it seemed to glide with no jarred movement his dog put it's ears down and started to wine and hid behind the settee we all looked at each other in panic then his mum walked in she was not a happy woman told us all never to do it again it's not to be messed with never done it since nor likely to either lol |
