If you like museums but want something different try the House Church museum. You go in through a traditional narrow canal house and make your way up hidden stairs till you suddenly come out of the confined space into a huge catholic church which is in the attic of a few of the houses.

It's totally unexpected and rather impressive.

On a sunny day hire bikes and hit the vondelpark.

We we're there about a month ago, the royal palace is worth seeing. The citizen hall is very impressive.

Best sex-show - Casa Rosa in the RLD. Sex museum on Damrak, and you can get horse & carriage tours from Dam Square - the price varies depending on how long a tour you want. Anne Frank's house is great if you want to feel historically guilty, and the canal boat tours are ok if you go on the cheese and wine one. You'll need the wine to stave off the boredom of looking at rusty canal sides.

If you want to do Anne Franks house or the van gogh museum the queues start early. It might not be so bad now it's out of season but take a good look at who's ahead of you in the queue - you don't want to get stuck behind a school party in the confined space of the Anne Frank house!

The Rijks museum is one of the best art galleries in Europe. Van Gogh museum is laid out in chronological order and really lays out how he progressed - very emotional to see. Oh and Heineken brewery tour is fun too. Either that or you go to the Grasshopper cafe and lose the entire weekend. . . .

I know loads of great places in Amsterdam, however, due to not avoiding the cakes (the red and green swirly one was just soooo pretty I had to eat 2 slices!!!), that I can't remember where any of them are!!

the street markets are quite cool and cost nothing to wander around which is always handy in Dam

we quite like the flower market .... it's along singel canal and some of the cabins have great collections of ancient cacti, succulents etc. it's very pretty

.... the flea market in waterlooplein is good when there's lots of fly pitches with their wares laid out on blankets and the dapperstraat market is enormous
