When you visit your mum and dad for a prolonged period I.e a week or so do they still ask you to empty the dish washer, was the pots, hag out the washing, tidy your room... you know the shit you had to do when you was younger?

I have to

I do stuff anyway out of habit not because I'm asked. I'm only to happy to help out with anything.

Isn't it just polite to offer a hand as a guest in anyone's house?!

The land of grey peas and bacon

My parents are no spring chickens so I help where I can....they changed my shitty bum when I was a baby, hugged me when I had my first heart break, lent me money when I was skint, clothed me put food in my belly and clothes on my back so why the hell shouldn't I help them when I go to stay...they have never asked anything of me however they provided me with the world...don't moan that you have to do odd jobs but be thankful you have parents you can do that for...

As ever, you put a wonderful point across so beautifully.

When we visit crystal's parents together we do get spoilt rotten, and do very little beyond fetch drinks, clear/lay the table and play with the cat! But if we don't do much it's very much because they won't let us not because we aren't willing. I suspect (don't know) that it's the same when she's there alone because her parents are like that. They always pay when we go out (though we always offer), it's pretty much impossible to even buy a round of drinks as they insist on footing the bill but I suspect that the kindness and generosity would be very quickly curtailed if they ever thought we took it for granted and didn't show grattitude.

When I used to visit my own parents they expected me to do everything and then criticised me for doing it wrong...

We don't stay with either of our parents as they live pretty local to us.

When we visit them we will happily help out with anything that needs doing. They do plenty of things to help us out so we like to return the favour when we can.

I totally agree with Cheekychops on this one. Me and my mum have role reversal. I have now for the past 5 years have been mums full time carer. I have to do everything for her from bed bathing her to tolieting. But i wouldnt change a thing. She has been there for me for the whole of my 43 years. So now its my turn to look after her and make her life as comfortable as i can. Its a shame my younger sister doent think the same way as me.

Quite.

I often wish I still had to do stuff for mine.
