Anyone know Hong Kong well? Got a day and night there on my way back from Sydney. And haven't researched - my local friend isn't in town, so not got the benefit of her wisdom. Thanks.

I've been to Hong Kong for 5 days. Stayed at the Peninsula. Catch the Star Ferry over. Amazing place, we went horse racing, shopping, markets. It's just amazing.

Also spent months in Sydney - did you do the bridge climb? Brings back sine fantastic memories for me xx

is your hotel on the island side or the mainland (Kowloon side)?

you interested in sightseeing, relaxing, drinking, shopping, local culture?

or all of the above..

I'm in, or through HK quite a bit - so have a bit of current knowledge about where to go, how to get there etc..

I'm Kowloon side, and will be getting an octopus card for the train system - its like oyster or opal. Dwarves aren't my thing, so will possibly come home celibate. I've not done badly in Oz, so that's ok. The night show sounds good, so will investigate for tonight.

Hope these ramblings are helpful!!

The ICC building attraction called Sky100 - viewing level on the 100th floor - elevator from 0 to 100 in less than 1 minute - and then you are at the top of HK new tallest building - some fantastic views. You can book a ticket in advance via the website (search sky100 - and will also see the location on the website (kowloon side) Good during the day, but also fantastic at night.

Also in same building - ICC -there is a sky bar - if you are there on a thursday night - it is free cocktail for the ladies night!

Night markets - Ladies market and Temple street - busy, but good fun. Most of the street restaurants - on Temple street - are great. Don't be put off by the appearance, or that you are sitting on a plastic stool on the pavement!

Great live music bar called Ned Kelly's Last stand. - Ashley Road - great atmosphere - and live 8piece jazz combo every night from 10pm.

Sticky Fingers bar (Mody road - next to the Shangri La hotel) - sounds dodgy - and it can be - but they have some of the best rock bands playing every night.in this area there are loads of really nice restaurants - tapas, thai, Italian etc.. also some good bars overlooking the harbour (Bulldog bar often has good atmosphere with different nationalities - and Brits!)

Shopping - couple of new malls on Nathan road - but Harbour city (canton road) is definitely worth a view.

Over on HK island side - a visit to The Peak (mtr to central, and then can have nice walk to the tram station - the angle the tram climbs up through the skyscrapers is fantastic - even more scary coming back down) Star ferry trip across the harbour daytime and at night is a must - walk down Nathan Road and turn right (past the Peninsula hotel) keep walking and you will come to star ferry. At night if you time it right you can watch the nightly laser/light show from the ferry.

Nightly laser light show starts at 8.00pm. If not on star ferry, then good viewing point is Avenue of Stars. Also good place to watch the spectacle is the lobby bar of the Intercontinental Hong Kong

A nice day trip - get the bus over to Stanley (mtr or star ferry to Central - bus station is easily found) I think it is the X6 or X16 (can't remember exactly so this may be wrong!) bus journey is an experience - get upstairs and try and sit at the very front!!. Stanley is very nice - redeveloped in the last few years. Some lovely bar/restaurants overlooking a Riviera style bay. Also a fantastic market.

If you want to try some great peking duck - Spring Deer - Mody road (opposite the entrance to K11 mall) look for the Indian restaurant street neon, and the door underneath it takes you to first floor. Try to book as it gets very busy all the time.

HK is a great city - easy to get around, and always something to discover around every corner. Enjoy.

I'm there in the next couple weeks

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

This is why I love the forum - you ask a question about visiting anywhere and people provide useful information.

I fancy a trip to HK now.

In at Sydney airport Lickety, if you set off now we could meet there. You're right, what you can't learn in the forums is not worth knowing. Some great posts, so will digest once I get there.

I had a great massage as my plane was refueling at HK the last time I went down under. I didn't have time to leave the airport though.

If its fun and frolics you're after head to Kowloon in the New Territorys. Its on the mainland just a 5minute ferry journey from Hong Kong island. You'll find allsorts to do with most tastes catered for. Nothing like a nice tight Chinese pussy. Enjoy
