I'm thinking maybe of starting to get my nails done.. I have seen some amazing and glittery effects.
Can anyone tell me the kind that is least upkeep and expense above doing a normal polish at home.
I'm thinking gel or gelish type effect etc... Are there any of this kind of effect and durability I can do myself with little knowledge?
What kind of financial commitment it it to have them done and keep them filled in etc?
I have no idea!
Thank you for your help

I have Shellac done. It lasts at least two weeks and helps nails grow as they're protected from breaks. It costs around £20 and takes at least an hour. DIY is not easy and would require a UV lamp. |

You can do your own gel nails at home. I think QVC sell a kit by RED DOOR, the nail prep stuff, polish, UV lamp, take off stuff etc. If it is on QVC, you can click and watch a demo video on how to use it. |

I decided to treat myself at christmas and get some gel tips, only £25.
I hated them.
Spent 5 minutes much to the amusement of my kids, trying to pick something off the floor, can do nothing with the nails.
Took about 6 months to get my natural nails back to a decent condition. |

Ive had shellac done, found with house work it still chips and having it removed every two weeks and reapplied (its just nail polish harden with uv light wont make nails longer) weakens and split the nails as you have to use acetone to remove it!
Personally good quality nail polish is much easier and can change it when the mood suits |

Beware of anything using uv lamps, there is current research that suggests using them on a regular basis can cause skin cancer. If you wouldn't use a sunbed, don't use uv lamps!! |

It is for 30 seconds to set the gel just on your finger tips. |

I'm well aware how long it's for. And also very aware my 31 yr old friend has skin cancer on her hand.. Perhaps you should research it |

From a professional point of view!
Please please please, get a professional, fully qualified, fully insured person to do your nails.
They will do them properly, following strict procedures, given full and correct aftercare and removal advice!
I've seen some horror pictures and heard horror stories re:DIY kits, cheap nail bars etc! |

Well hello there sexy lady, it's been a while! I normally don't post on forums
but as it's you how could I resist!
I've seen your nails and would say don't do it! Your nails are lovely and would be ruined if you have any gel/ gelish done!

Fair enough, but your hands get lots of exposure to day/sunlight everyday, it may have been the lamp, it may have been life exposure. People have the option to check it out now the possible risk has been highlighted. |

"I'd love nice nails... Have to keep them short, for work... "
Me too. I always say if I ever give up my profession, my next job has to have the option of wearing nail polish and lippy |
