What chain shops do you remember?

C&A. My mum used to make me go there for my school uniform. Used to hate the material they used, sure it was that that used to create static that gave me bad hair for entire school life!
Still exists in most European countries, they just moved out of the UK, thank God!! |

Sainsbury's are bringing Netto's back to the UK......
UK supermarket chain Sainsbury's is to take on discount rivals Aldi and Lidl by entering into a joint venture with Danish discount grocery chain Netto.
The joint venture will see the launch of 15 Netto stores by the end of 2015.
Both Netto and Sainsbury's will invest £12.5m in the venture. The first store will open in the north of England later this year. |

That's weird because around here I heard that ASDA bought Netto and then when the one by me closed months later, it was converted into an ASDA.
Is it possible they split up the UK Netto between companies then? |

Netto was huge in my neighbourhood lol they had the best sausages and black pud for a start. Deep fill BLTs for a quid as well.
When the ASDA rolled in, they got more shoppers, but everyone still thinks it's shit. I don't shop there now. |

I dont know if it's still there but there's one in Bootle Strand that never went away. It just advertises burgers for about £5 and its customer base is purely pensioners stopping in to cach their breath and have a cup of tea.
To be honest, I'm not even sure they actually store burgers or if it's just a front for something else. I might go in and ask and see if they shit one and run out the back! |

A few more that haven't been mentioned so far .....
Laskys (electrical store, 70's)
George Mason (greengrocers, 60's)
John Collier (mens outfitters, 70's)"The Window To Watch!"
Visionhire (tv rentals, 60's)
Green Shield stamps were issued by many outlets .... there were also 'pink' stamps that I believe you got when you bought paraffin oil.

My daughter works for river island and they do the chelsea girl range. Influanced by the late 60's 70's. Think she said river island had patterns from some of the origial chealsea girl garments and recreated some of them |

Richard shops.
I remember you got green shield stamps in a sheet or in a long string of single stamps from a machine, usually at a garage.
Talking of garages, remember the breakfast and soup bowls and all those bloody glasses, also smurfs etc.

i thought asda took over netto cos when they went i thought typical giants took them over and got rid, the 1 in ponte was in the middle of place where there are 2 asdas so home bargains got the shop and morrisons got the one in cas .

OK, lets sort this Asda/Netto thing out....
Asda bought Netto UK in 2010 for £778m. Netto had 193 shops, but the Office of Fair Trading got involved and told them to get rid of 47.
20 became Ugo, which later went into administration. Poundstretcher bought 18 of those stores
Morrisons got 18 of them
Iceland and Co-op got 3 each.
And 3 just closed. |
