Aliens on Sky Movies right now. How is that nearly 30 years old, it's just utterly brilliant.
Some serious arse-kicking by Sigourney Weaver, or as I called her aged 14 - Big Horny Beaver.
Number two in my science fiction movie list methinks, topped only by the might of Star Wars.
What do you reckon ladies? Er, ladies... Anybody there? |

Now go and watch 2001 and take note that it was made in 1968 or a year before the moon landings and 8 years before Star Wars (and a much slicker, better made film IMO) |

But its soooo boooorrrrinnnggg. At least Aliens is an arse kicking action film with Michael Beihn (phwooarr) in.
Top sci-fi film for me is Fifth Element. It just has everything in, including mayhem. |

My first kid crush on an actress, also from Ghostbusters. But as relating to the film, it's a mixture of all the things that matter in cinema.
It has the suspenseful horror and shocks of the first, with big scale action, practical effects and production values that haven't really aged that badly at all.
Credible character actors (most of James Cameron's actors became hugely popular and successful - Lance Henriksen, Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton, Paul Reiser, Mark Rolston).
On top of that, it's a family movie for mature audiences, with a mother figure (Ripley), a father figure (Hicks), the daughter in peril (Newt) and the loyal dog that might or might not go wacko (Bishop). |

I'm SO looking forward to Besson's new film, Lucy."
Mixed reviews but I just want to see Scarlett Jonahson in her own high concept movie. She's so wasted in the Avengers. |

Its not boring- its cerebral, a slow burner.... no car chases, huge and unexplained explosions etc just because a studio exec wanted more 'action'.
For a fairly dull sci-fi that doesn't seem to do much, try Solaris |

Ah that's a shame! Visually, it looks amazing. I'm pretty much his #1 fan though, I'd probably like anything he released with his name attached. |

Well hey it's Besson, he will never make another Leon, but you can count on great looking films with a shitload of action. Dont let that put you off. I wont. |

Have you seen Angel-A? It's my favourite film by him, and rights any possible future wrong doings. |

No, I dont watch a great deal of films anymore. I think I've worn them out. But I will look it up too and see if it intrigues me, thanks.
And Chipahoy that 'Her' looks pretty damn good. I will keep an eye out for it for sure. |

"Since Besson was mentioned, look to the French for horror and sci-fi.
Mutants, La Horde, Eden Log, Dante 01, City of Lost Children."
But not any New French Extremity films like Martyrs |

I adore Sci fi films. Even the bad ones stimulate the imagination. There are some classic books that have made great films and more that are waiting in the wings. |

Eden Log was a great little example of genius marketing. They released a dvd with French and a choice of English subs or an English spoken version. Either they filmed all the spoken scenes twice or it's the best dubbing in history. I still cannot tell! |

I dont like any extremity films that arent purposeful dramas. I spent the duration of Tyrannosaur with my hand over my mouth. |

He also wrote and produced the Transporter trilogy and District 13, and directed one of Paul Walker's last; Brick Mansions. |

I would agree there, so dull and didn't understand it, special effects good though but that's about it |
