Donate sperm to a friend in need?...I was chatting to a really good male friend the other evening on the phone...I had a bit of a wobbly moment as I'm soon turning 35 and worried about not becoming a mother and he said being all serious if push comes to shove and I don't meet Mr right before my eggs dry up he would give me some of his...I laughed but I did think what a lovely gesture... |

Oh boy..... Heavy subject...
Half of me says no but then is it any different from a female couple gaining sperm from a doner..??
Ultimately we all want to find mr or mrs right.... Though for many this is elusive....
I always have respect for fathers but more so when you know they are bringing up a child thats not there own..... TRUE HEROES...

I'd pick a sexy looking man in a bar chat to see if he's intelligent, asking about hereditary diseases in his family, then get him d*unk, kidnap him,tie him to my bed and have sex with him for a week. At my most fertile time of course |

"Absolutley not.
If I had a child, I'd want input on its upbringing. "
Ok what if she said that she wanted you to play a role in that child's life but didn't want to be in a relationship with you...however would allow you complete access to that child? |

Not such a simple question to answer.
I think a lot would depend on the friendship.
I think if it were a couple who were having difficulties conceiving due to hubby having a low sperm count then, yes I probably would.
A single woman - I'm not so sure that I would - in fact pretty sure that I wouldn't.
I'm not comfortable with the idea of a child growing up without a father.
I'm equally uncomfortable about homosexual couples bringing children into their relationships - but not for any homophobic reasons - but because of what is in the childs best interest.
Having been through lengthy court proceedings over my own children, I have very strong _iews on Children's rights - not parents rights.
Here's a little golden nugget for you all. If ever a court is involved in a parental dispute each parent has equal rights over the child - i.e. none!!
The court will be concerning itself with the rights of the child to relationships with his / her parents etc.
Just my two cents |

Well what do you mean? I hate it when someone says a comment then says never mind lol "
I read what you put incorrectly lol. It's my fault.
I thought you said "when my eggs have dried up he will donate sperm"

Sweetheart - you're beautiful and your 34! I started seeing my ex ( a lovely man and still a good friend!) at your age - and had a son and daughter when i was 36 abd 37 respectively - and I still climb trees, swing on rope swings and play football on the park with them! Enjoy life and don't worry beautiful! And if it doesn't happen naturally - there are other ways to be a mother! :-* xx |

Ermmm to the point in regards to same sex partnership bringing a child up how is it in the best interest for the child not to be brought up with a same sex couple? I find that statement complete bollocks quite frankly....if a person wants to bring up a child I couldn't give a shit what sexuality they are as long as they love, nurture, look after that child... |

**Serious answer alert** I think it's a lovely gesture, but what happens regarding contributing to the child's upbringing? I've never wanted ankle biters but realise it can be an imperative for some women. **Alert Ends**
I guess if I had ever gotten to the point where I really wanted to produce an heir to the Caz fortunes (27p and a mega store of condoms from the clap clinic) I'd have just barebacked to get pregnant and pleaded a contraceptive "accident" |

I've got friends who've become mothers in their early 40's. You've got plenty of time yet Cheeky.
But if it's a real concern to you. I know there is a cost and it's invasive but you could freeze some of your eggs, whilst you wait for Mr Right. Just a thought. |

Being 35 and questioned the same things you have CC over the past few years. I've kinda come to some kind of peace that maybe that boat, for me, has waltzed out the harbour. Not saying never, just happy to accept that may be so.
Still got a life to live and not becoming a parent shouldn't make that life any less worth while.
Would I donate to a friend? I would give it the seriousness and consideration it needed, but think it would still be a no. |

The way your response is worded, it would appear that you are looking at it from the couples point of _iew.
What I would consider is when a child brought into such a relationship goes to school, is it likely to be teased and bullied because, unlike most of the other kids, he or she has two dads or two mums.
Is it fair that any child should be subjected to this?
I'm not saying it's right!
I was trying very carefully to word my post in a manner that would not offend anyone.
I have nothing against gay people whatsoever. I have a cousin who has just recently married her long term partner (another woman)
They both have children from former heterosexual relationships.
I'm not saying that anyone should not be allowed to be a parent because of their sexuality.
Not saying that at all!!
It's just my own personal _iew of what such a child might be subjected to - and if this is acceptable or not in order to satisfy any parental desires of the adults concerned.
I really wasn't trying to be controversial or offend anyone, and I apologise to anyone if I have.

"I looked into donating eggs at one point but it never seemed to be the right time. Now of course they are all old and funky."
On a serious note (yes, twice in one thread!) if I were asked to donate eggs (and they were viable, which at my age is probably unlikely) I'd be happy to. I don't believe it should be done on the NHS as I don't personally believe childlessness to be something that should necessarily be sorted by the NHS, however, I'd donate for altruistic reasons as basically my eggs are waste products to me |

I know of same sex partnerships and have children and none have been bullied...I think it's how you deal with that situation but ANY children are at risked of being bullied in school..I was bullied for being fat...it can happen regardless..like I said if they want to become parents then good for them |

Absolutely correct. Kids get bullied for all sorts of reasons.
Kind of feel this might have got off track a little from your original post.

I know children who have made it to adulthood now as the product of same sex couples as parents. None of them have ever spoken about being bullied or teased. This might be because they were brought up in cities.
When they asked about why they didn't have a daddy or a mummy the same sorts of reasons were given as for adoption (in some cases they have been adopted in others one parent is genetically related to them).

Cheeky, a serious response on your topic now.
I went through the craving a child and looked at donor insemination. I spoke to gay friends and discussed this as well as looking at buying sperm (easier than I thought it would be at the time but I suspect it's harder now as the rules have changed).
I was accepted by a clinic as a single woman but as I went through the counselling I found that I couldn't go through with it. As much as I wanted a child it wasn't how I wanted to bring a child into the world.

Try again lol
It nice to have the idea there's a back up, but things don't always go to plan.
The other end of that scale,I know a girl who paid someone £50 to donate as she wanted another kid so she could stay in benefits. But it turned out she had mental issues and now had both kids removed from her. |

I think offering to pay someone £50 and the person accepting the £50 suggests they both had problems.
I hope her children are safe and well.

and those kids will probably add to the massive increase of children languishing in the care system until they are adults becuase more and more folks are going for insemination methods rather than adopting ..... such a shame that people see children as a right and not as human beings in their own right |

Reminds me of the guy who got took to court for failing to disclose his vasectomy. He had a friend like this and provided her with a couple of samples and then told her they were dieing before insertion so he could fuck her to get a better chance of pregnancy. Apparently he did it for 7 months twice a week before she figured there was something wrong and got the authorities involved. |

I know a guy who for some time had promised a lesbian couple that he would be their donor, but when they actually wanted his swimmers he backed out.
Unfortunately the assisted conception unit then told them that their lifestyle 'choice' had made them intentionally infertile and as a result they were not entitled to any free fertility treatments including donor sperm.
Due to a combination of health issues and financial issues they are now having to accept that not only is a genetic child unlikely but they would be unlikely to be accepted to even foster let alone adopt. |

I'm not a guy, but i feel i might have something to add to the thread so will post, albeit from a different perspective
I think that if a man offered me this, whether i accepted or not would depend on many things. One of those things would be how he approached it. If he just off the cuff said 'i will help' then I'd treat it as an off the cuff remark and not really give it much further thought. If, however, he said 'look, I've been thinking about myself not having kids, much as you have been. I'd like to think about helping you, but i need to know how much/what involvement you want from me throughout and after, how you feel about *insert topics like vaccinations, or moral/religious topics here* then i would at least have the conversation and give the possibility thought because i would see that he was serious and making an informed decision. I hope that makes sense. |

It's amazing how many men are willing to be so generous and donate their sperm - by natural means of course - which is always a very welcome offer..
But then they back down so quickly when you start asking how they will financially support the results...!!!

When I was in my late twenties (getting old to start having children in those days) I had a very good friend who said he'd help if I got to thirty and was still single. I met my ex at twenty eight, so I didn't need him but if my situation had been right and I'd wanted a baby that badly, I'd have done it. |

If I personally went down this route which I'm not even considering at this stage...if he wanted nothing to do with the child I certainly wouldn't come after him for money...if he wanted something to do with the child's upbringing then that is something we would discuss.. |

"I'd be too worried about "circumstances changing, circa 16-18 years time". But then again, I'm paranoid about scenarios I can't control, hence why I check my pockets keys, wallet and phone everytime I leave the house! "
I would imagine most people would have a child conceived in this way to bring up as their own, therefore how many people do you think would tell the child for it to ne able to go looking? Some would I know but I think most would keep this information from the child |

"Yes, and have done, children have no idea who I am but if they then they will get the whole story. 2 bouts of chemo later I don't think I can anymore"
Errr I seriously hope the parents and children know about the chemo etc so they can have the child checked incase it's hereditary |

"It's amazing how many men are willing to be so generous and donate their sperm - by natural means of course - which is always a very welcome offer..
But then they back down so quickly when you start asking how they will financially support the results...!!!
"
Is this really the point?
Sex is one thing. Bringing new life into the world is a whole different matter!!
Why should financial concerns be the main agenda just because we're guys??? |

I've never been the money grabbing type so if I went down this route I'd be in the mind set I'm going down it alone once the sperm has met the egg I would of course give the guy every blessing to be part of that child's life... |

Yes you can say that all you like but by privately donating instead of via a clinic the guy has zero protection.
If you turn around and demand csa he has to pay it end of really. |

I've had 2 friends offer to help as I've known since I was young that I have gynae probs. this was after my first mc. Due to endometriosis and a weak cervix. I've known them since we were kids. He offered sperm as he knew I wanted to try n have em young as that reduces risk of problems as I was already having probs. she offered to be a surrogate, this was just after she'd had her first and she sailed through pregnancy. Her husband was fully supportive. As it happens I had another mc. Losing 2 babies due to same as before plus one was ectopic. I also had surgery after this and medical treatment with the hope of things working next time. I now have my beautiful girl tho the pregnancy was medically very carefully monitored.
Each person has to consider their own circumstances and be honest about their feelings.
Btw the potential sperm donor now has 4 kids and is a wonderful dad. My daughters dad is a waste of space n might as well have been an anon donor, so there's no telling how things will work out! |

if its a couple then the adopted father will be put on the birth certificate. well thats how they do it via surrogacy anyway. if it's a single woman its her choice whether to have the name on or not.
my biological dad isn't on my birth certificate and he didn't/hasn't paid a penny towards me nor made any effort to contact me, water under the bridge for me lol |

Yes of course they do, we are still friends. their children are teenagers now and know me as a family friend. They obviously know that there is a male somewhere in the equation, but have never asked who. |

"Donate sperm to a friend in need?...I was chatting to a really good male friend the other evening on the phone...I had a bit of a wobbly moment as I'm soon turning 35 and worried about not becoming a mother and he said being all serious if push comes to shove and I don't meet Mr right before my eggs dry up he would give me some of his...I laughed but I did think what a lovely gesture... "
You can have my sperm on the condition you let me insert it personally |
